"AH!" I exclaim after I turned around and saw the figure that was originally in the distance behind me. It was a big, heavily veiled person, I couldn't even tell their gender.

His eyes are covered by a short navy blue fabic type thing infront of his eyes, like a knight, and he has a large silver headpiece like a crown. Blue gems are all over the headpiece, too. He wore a long blue cloak with a line of tinier blue gems on the base, and a thick veil like a royal bride than tranced long behind him. It looked like he was wearing a long dress, like Elsa during the scene of her coronation in Frozen 1. He had broad shoulders and pale white skin with markings. Either those were weird scars, or he has vitiligo.

"Stranger danger!" I exclaim as I take out my pepper spray out my pocket, like it would blind him magically despite that fabric.

"Watch that." the man says coldly. "... You don't belong here, do you? What have you done..." he says.

"What do you mean 'what have I done'?!" I respond. Scared, obviously. You never know what a man can do to you, i'd rather face a 600 KG polar bear.

"Have you touched anything here, ma'am?" The veiled man asked.

I reluctantly respond.
"I- yes.. A toad, I'm a Herpetologist...."

".. This forest isn't ordinary." He says calmly, like that isn't a weird statement. "It's enchanted, you're stuck here." He informs.

"That's a load of bullsh-" I start.

"Don't curse." He cuts me off. "You've been running in circles like you're lost, which, you definitely are." He comments. "You can't get out of here, unless.." He taps his chin thoughtfully as I stare at him, bewildered. "Well, If I'm correct, stop the corruption of our order." He finishes.

"Oh hell no! I am not doing this cultist shi-" I start before i'm inevitably shut up once again.

"Ah-ah-ah.." He cuts me off. "You don't really have a choice, unfortunately... You'll be trapped here forever. You can either join the corruption... Or end it. It's your choice to choose." He says, which sounds quite ominous.

"Okay, okay, whatever crazy. What do I have to do to stop that?" I ask him, reluctant to do it and wary of him in particular. "And what is "the order" exactly? Your cult or whatever?" I ask, a little bit taunting as he lets out a huff of irritation at that.

"The corruption is the mentality of the higher-ups in the order." He explains. "It's been happening for centuries, and the sole reason i've gone rogue, seperated from the order."
"And, the order is formally called "The Gem Order". We're essentially humanized versions of gems, there's only one of each." He adds.

"And why the hell couldn't you fix the corruption?" I ask him suspiciously.

"I'm simply too weak.. My magic has faded due to my seperation. But you, you can fix everything." He says. "You don't require gems for strength, human, but you're.. quite weak yourself, I must say." He comments.

"Thanks, I never noticed." I say sarcastically as I look at my smaller girl arms. "You expected me to be some buff muscle-mommy?" I ask him, not to be answered, though.

"What's a muscle mommy..." He mumbles and scratches his head. "Anyways, My name is Sapph, short for Sapphire." Sapphire introduces.

"You didn't need to shorten it, but okay, weirdo." I say and cross my arms. "My name's Bailey. Bailey Brooks, Herpetologist from Valdosta, Georgia." I introduce, since he introduced himself first. It's only right to do so.

"Valdosta? Sounds like a redneck town." He comments and I scoff. How rude!

"You're offense for a weird cult guy." I say, crossing my arms and looking away with a pout.

"My condolences.." He responds almost.. Softly? I open one eye and turn my head to look back at him.

"Err... It's fine I suppose." I respond. He is quite cute, but I ain't saying nothing about my opinion. "Don't apologize with 'condolences' though, that doesn't sound right."

"Ah. Alright then." Sapphire responds, politely now.

Why is this guy so weird...? I asked myself mentally. He seems off but then again, hes "rogue", so I assume this feller didn't have much human interaction as of recently.

"So... What is the Gem Order, simplified?" I ask him, crossing my arms.

"Well.. We're basically born into this organization...-" He starts before I cut him off.

"So it's a cult?" I ask.

"Not precisely." Sapphire responds, crossing his muscled arms showing slightly beneath the folds of silk of his cloak and veil. "It's something that happens five times a century. One human is born a Gem, and they're sent away to this forest." He says.

"... So it's like one of those creepy organizations for teenagers to 'get better'?-" I ask before getting cut off.

"I don't know what that is, but no. Its essentially like... endangered species being put into a safe domain." He explains. That makes a lot more sense now.

"Alright. So.. What am I meant to do to 'stop the corruption?'" I ask. "I mean, you can't just persuade someone to change their mind, that's their decisio-" I add before being cut off once more.

"... Kill them." He says. I stare at him, shocked. Murder?... I do not even think I'm capable of doing something so bold and gorey. A actual crime like that? The worst crime I've ever done has been putting milk before cereal in the bowl.

"What?! That's murder!" I exclaim. "-And you said you fuckers have magic and shit? I'm not gonna beat that! No way in hell!"

"I'm not too proud to say that too, but It's either that or you join them, and you'd never leave at all. Unless that's what you want." Sapphire says, looking down with a bit of dissapointment.

"I-... Fine. Teach me how." I say, reluctantly. I knew this was highly illegal and immoral; but I must get home to Avery and Pa in time.

What I hadn't known that i'd soon find out, is the time here is equivalent to 0.000005 seconds outside per hour in this forest...
