Horizon was a beautiful colony, Kaidan definitely liked being there for the scenery, the people not so much. Only a few would speak to him, he spent most of his time with Lilith, she was a young woman who ran the science team. She didn't mind Kaidan and helped him navigate the colony.

"It's no use, Commander," Lilith says as she pulls her head back out from the control panel. The AA guns Anderson had sent were massive but didn't even work. They couldn't get enough power from the colony's main power grid.

Kaidan looked up at the gun, it also wasn't aligning with the targets correctly. "We need them up and running. This colony has little protection." Lilith wipes her hands clean and stops next to him.

"What do we need protecting from?" Kaidan looked down at the floor before meeting her questioning gaze. No one knew he was there for Shepard, they thought he was there to get the AA guns working.

"Many things, slavers for a start. This colony is an easy target being in the Terminus systems." Lilith shakes her head, looking up at the gun.

"We've done just fine the last ten years without Alliance aid, I'm unsure why they're bothering now." Kaidan didn't answer her floating question, he just slightly shrugged and walked down the metal stairs to the bottom level of the AA tower. Colonists walked around them, they smiled at Lilith but taunted Kaidan.

"Surprised I can't say the same for feeling safe here," he mutters. Lilith walks closer.

"Most have had trouble with the Alliance, they chose to live away from it. You cannot expect everyone to be welcoming with open arms." Kaidan grunts and turns towards the mess hall, he grabs some water and opens his omni-tool checking for any messages.

He had the usual Alliance updates then a message from Anderson.

To: Kaidan Alenko.

From: David Anderson.

Commander,

The comm buoys have picked up a ship entering the Shadow Sea cluster, readings can't specify if it's friendly, so be prepared.

Anderson.

Kaidan placed his water down with little care and rushed back towards Lilith. "We need to get those AA guns online, let's try again." He began to walk back towards the main tower, Lilith sighed as she followed. Kaidan didn't know if it was Shepard or not, but if it wasn't he couldn't protect this colony alone.

"We have tried, Commander. We don't have the power for it," she calls trying to catch up. Kaidan stops abruptly.

Scoffing as he speaks, "surprised I haven't been blamed for it not working." Lilith's eyes drop, shaking her head slightly.

"Some just struggle to trust, Commander. It's not personal." As Lilith finished speaking the clouds above them began to rumble, storm clouds formed unnaturally fast. Kaidan slowly drops his hands from his hips, going to the gun strapped on his back.

"What is that?" a lady asks aloud as everyone begins to look up. The storm formed with swirling black clouds, all thought raindrops were coming from the clouds. Kaidan activates the scope and looks through, his mouth drops when it's in fact not raindrops but tiny bugs, millions of them.

"Get everyone to the safe house," he shouts at Lilith as he begins to shoot them, they were tiny, palm size at most. He could hear screams form as everyone began to run, Kaidan looked back through his scope this time seeing a ship, he'd never seen anything like it. It was cigar-shaped with rock-like forms covering the main hull and full length of the ship, vertically up in the sky, thrusters slowing it down to stay floating mid-air. It had thick black spikes sticking out one end, Kaidan wondered if that was a weapon of some sort.
