March 21
After We Finished eating, we decided to watch a movie before walking around the mall.
"Do you know what's on?" I asked no one in particular. "If you look at the board, you'll know what's playing," Ivan said sarcastically, making me turn to look at him with a -really- expression.
I turned back to the board, " Oh, right. I forgot they have those"
"You should have brought your glasses if you can't see—" Kiara said, getting cut off when Ivan mumbled, "Dumbass," under his breath. I ignored his comment as I looked over at the board.
"Hey, look–" we all went to see what Alma was pointing at " —a movie called Non-Stop is gonna start in thirty minutes; I saw the preview; it's really interesting."
We all looked at each other, having a silent conversation with our eyes, "Come on! It starts in thirty minutes, and y'all still haven't decided what to watch yet." She tried to convince us.
When we didn't answer, Alma went behind me and started to push me toward the open ticket booth.
"If I were the guy in the booth, I'd look bored as well," I thought when I saw the guy holding his head up with his hand and looking down at his phone. " Hello, how much is 4 tickets for Non-Stop?" asked Alma.
" How many adults and childr–" he stop mid-sentence when he saw looked up, meeting Alma's eyes. He sat up straighter, looking more alarmed, clearing his throat.
"Four adults," Alma said with a smile. The guy looked at her a second longer before looking down at his computer, "ah-um, that is going to be $84.72" he stuttered nervously. I looked at him like he was crazy,
"What kind of price is that?" I said to no one specific.
"Oh! Sorry, I meant $42.87," He corrected, as I saw his ears slowly getting red. He sucks at stealing glances at Alma. I couldn't help but look between them to see Alma, just giving him a kind smile in return.
"Hmm, I heard people don't necessarily need their eyes to see if they have their fingers and other senses–" I felt a harsh smack on my arm, making my thoughts vanish. Making me look down at her, she pushed me in front of her; looking at her confused face, she gestured her head toward the booth guy.
Knowing what she meant, I rolled my eyes at her, pulling out my wallet. I tossed him a fifty bill, earning me another smack behind my head.
"I swear she has the same hit as our mother," I grumbled while rubbing the back of my head.
After getting my change and tickets, we headed inside.
Me and Ivan went to get the snacks and drinks while our sisters waited for us on the side, and upon meeting up with them, I couldn't help but laugh at the sight before me–Kiara was on her phone wearing these dark sunglasses, making her look like some fashion esta, and Alma was always bringing a book. It is quite the opposite site to see.
"Axel?" said an all too familiar voice. The smell of vanilla perfume hit my nose. Turning around, I was met with a confused-faced Luna, "What are you doing here? Did you know I was going to be here?" she asked.
I glanced at my siblings, pointing my thumb at them. " I'm here with my family. It's a Sibling's Day since Alma is visiting."
"Right, you said–you said that." She didn't say anything after that. The silence felt awkward. At the time we were dating, there was never an awkward moment like this.
This doesn't feel real. It doesn't feel right.
Just as she was about to say something, Luna got beaten to it, "Luna?" Alma questioned as she made her way over to where we were. I knew she wasn't expecting Alma to talk to her first, seeing how her face turned into surprise.
"Alma, Hi," she said slowly, with caution.
"It's....been a while, hasn't it?" Alma said slowly, like she was unsure if she should even be talking.
" You look good. I'm surprised you kept in contact with my family. I thought that–" Alma stops like she didn't know what to say next.
"Yea, umm—actually, Axel and I have been dating for about two years now," Luna said as softly as possible, though I didn't miss the uncomfortable expression on Alma's face.
Turning my attention to Luna, I put on a tight smile, "Luna, can I talk to you–"
"No, It's okay. I didn't know you two were dating. If you want, Luna, you can join us. It's because of me, and you two can't hang out this weekend." I turned so fast that I thought I would've broken my neck.
"Alma? Wh–no. It's okay, we are always together. We can spend a couple of days apart. It's family time today." I tried to reason with her.
" It's just for today. How come you never told me you two were dating?" she has with her hands on her hips, giving me a pointed look.
Just as I was about to say something, my mouth closed right back up. How can I even answer that?
"Never mind. Would you like to join us?" She can't be serious. I guess she knew what I was thinking since she pulled me aside, " I know what you're thinking, but remember, we used to be friends. She was good to me." I sigh. Deep down, I couldn't help but feel touched and happy. Touched that Alma invited Luna despite their history and happy to be able to see Luna even if were in an awkward situation.
Turning back around, I asked Luna if she wanted to join us. Which she reluctantly accepted.
Throughout the movie, I couldn't help but have a heavy heart. Looking between Luna and Alma, I couldn't help wondering what happened between them. They were so close then one day, they had a heavy tension with each other. Before I started to rack my brain, I returned to focus on the screen. Knowing I'll ask them separately what happened.
