March 29
The next morning came, the apartment was cold, it felt good during my sleep. Not only that, this sleep felt like something amazing would happen today or just was a great rest otherwise why would I feel so excited and happy? Feeling super energized! You already know that with those mixed, the greatest idea came to mind.
Today I knew no one would be working so I came up with a perfect idea. Getting up from my bed, I did my morning routine.
Heading out of the bathroom, I heard my mom in the kitchen. That lady does not know when to sleep in.
"Bueno Dias, mama," (good morning) I said, sitting on the counter stool. " Ah hija, y tu tambien," she replied, leaning over the sink, pulling my hair to kiss my forehead. (Oh daughter, and you too)
"Mama!"
"Ay, don't scream, I'm right here. Que?" (what?)
"Papa doesn't work Sundays, right?"
"No, why?" she asked, putting her mug down.
"Why don't we have a family date?" I suggested excitedly.
I would have thought she would agree right away, you know, since this is not really the type of thing that requires too much thinking, but I forgot that my parents don't even go out. "Wait! Do they even know that there is a life outside of work and their kids!?" I worried to myself.
Dang, this lady takes a long time to decide. Right as I got up, she told me to get her phone. "I knew you were waiting for something!" I exclaim loudly, pointing an accusing finger at her, but she ignores me.
I went to get her phone from the coffee table. Handling it to her, I wondered what she is going to do.
I went back to my previous seat. I heard her phone ring on the speaker. "Que paso, chaprra?" (What happened, shorty?) My dad answers, " Nada, your daughter wants to go on a family date. Donde estas los ninos?" (where are the children?)
"Room. Sleep," my dad said in his broken English accent. After that, I knew they were gonna have a whole conversation, so I migrated to the sala (living room) and turned the TV on.
After a while, my parents hung up. "What did Papi say?"
'They gonna meet us at Hoppers in thirty minutes, so go get ready.' She didn't have to tell me twice—I decided to wear a flowy, purple dress with ruffle laces like it was going in a spiral circle and with short sleeves that were flowy-light even. It's not really my favorite sleeve style, but I can fix that with a white cardigan; as for shoes, white flats would match perfectly!
Once we finished getting ready, we left. I'm so excited! We haven't been out as a family in a long time. This is going to be refreshing.
As we made it, I saw my dad's car, telling my mom he was there. Just as my mom parked the car, I flew out of there, hurrying over to his truck. Getting closer, I saw them on the phone and two of my siblings from my angle. "Pa! Papi! Es tu favorita hija!" (it's your favorite daughter) I said loudly while trying to catch my breath from running over, but that didn't stop the smile on my face. With his window already down, I put my head inside his car and saw all my siblings there.
As I was about to greet them, he pushed my face out, "No tengo favoritos, ahora muevete." (I don't have favorites, now move) he said, already opening his door, forcing me to move. Everyone got out, and my mom caught up to us.
" Hola vieja, como, estas?" (Hi, old lady, how are you?) my dad greet Mom. As they were chatting, I headed over to my siblings on the pavement, standing in front of the truck.
