"Agh..god damnit, why on earth is it so cold out here?!"
the quick, violent winds slashed against Melissa's exposed face as she slowly wandered through the forest, her body was completely covered up as she was wearing a large black coat, a thick scarf, a soft woollen hat, a pair of boots and even a pair of gloves, the only bit of skin that was showing was all of the skin on her face.
aside from her heavy clothing, she also had a large backpack on her that she had stuffed with things like food, water bottles and medical supplies such as bandaids and bandages incase she had got a nasty cut or wound, her pocket also contained a small knife that she only intended to use for self defense if anything tried to go after her.
Melissa thought she was good with tolerating cold environments, but she was struggling against the cold, foggy air waving by her face.
before she could think about it much, she suddenly heard a soft rustle in the bushes.
she immediately pulled out her knife on instinct.
Melissa knew how dangerous the deeper parts of this forest were, and as such she was looking all around herself, trying to see if there was anything hiding in the bushes, waiting to jump out and pounce onto her.
she braced herself, expecting to see one of those feral objects jump at her-
..only to see a small rabbit?
indeed, instead of seeing a giant, inanimate animal jump out of the bushes ready to attack her, there was instead a brown, wild rabbit, casually hopping on the forest floor while somehow not getting scared of Melissa's presence, it must not have recognised her as another creature and instead thought she was a tall rock or large tree due to how still she was and how her clothing covered most of her body.
"..phew, just a bunny" Melissa mumbled.
"though..didn't it sound like something bigger was in the bushes?"
before she could say anything else, a low hiss made her blood go as cold as the freezing air around her.
"OH SHIT!-"
(CRUNCH!)
the sound of tiny little bones being crushed were heard as a large entity jumped out of the bushes and went straight for the brown rabbit, quickly trapping and biting into the small, screaming animals body in the process.
once Melissa got a quick yet good look at the beast that had taken the rabbits life, she knew she needed to hide.
it was one of those feral objects, a bright red ruby to be exact.
Melissa knew she needed to find somewhere to hide before the feral crystal spotted her, and as she looked around, she noticed a large, tall stone that she quickly ran behind.
this obviously wasn't the best hiding spot in the world, but it was the best one Melissa had right now.
while she hid, the feral ruby was done eating the entire rabbits body whole as it quickly got back up onto its feet, it stood and looked around for a second..before sniffing at the air.
oh shit.
it must have caught Melissa's scent.
the ruby sniffed up in the air like some kind of hunting dog trying to find the scent of a poor fox to hunt down before suddenly going back down and slowly turning around to look at the large stone nearby.
