The practice room was buzzing with a soft hum of conversations, scattered laughter, and the gentle tapping of sneakers against the polished wooden floor. Yunjin sat in the corner, tuning her guitar, her fingers moving deftly over the strings as she adjusted the pegs. Her mind, however, was far from the music; it was focused on Chaewon.
Ever since their late-night conversation on the rooftop, something had shifted between them. There was an unspoken understanding, a silent promise that they would explore this new feeling growing between them, whatever it was. Yunjin found herself stealing glances at Chaewon more often than she cared to admit. She watched how the other girl moved with an effortless grace, her laughter ringing out like music itself. Yunjin felt like she was learning a new melody — a melody that was complex, unexpected, and, most of all, intoxicating.
Chaewon, on the other hand, was pretending to be engrossed in her choreography, but her thoughts kept drifting back to Yunjin. That night on the rooftop, she had felt something shift inside her — a flutter in her chest, a warmth that spread through her entire body. It was unfamiliar, yet she didn't want it to go away. Yunjin's presence had a calming effect on her, and she found herself craving it more and more.
The two had grown closer in the days since, but neither had the courage to address the elephant in the room directly. There were moments — brief, fleeting moments — when their eyes met and lingered a little too long, when their hands brushed against each other accidentally, leaving a spark that seemed to burn long after they parted. They were both aware of these moments, but neither wanted to be the first to speak.
Today, however, was different. They were preparing for a joint performance, an acoustic rendition of a popular song that required a close harmony and an undeniable connection between the singers. Yunjin knew this was her chance to feel that connection again, even if just for a few minutes.
Chaewon was standing in front of the mirror, her brow furrowed in concentration as she ran through the lyrics in her head. Yunjin approached her, holding her guitar close to her chest, her heart pounding slightly faster than usual.
"Hey," Yunjin said softly, her voice a gentle interruption. Chaewon turned, her expression softening when she saw Yunjin.
"Hey," Chaewon replied with a small smile. "Ready for practice?"
"As ready as I'll ever be," Yunjin chuckled, and they both moved toward the center of the room.
As they began to sing, their voices blended together effortlessly, creating a sound that was uniquely theirs. Yunjin felt her heart swell with emotion as she sang, her eyes never leaving Chaewon's. The song was about love, about finding something unexpected, and Yunjin couldn't help but feel like it was written for them. Chaewon, too, felt the intensity of the moment, her voice wavering slightly as she got lost in Yunjin's gaze.
When the song ended, there was a moment of silence. The room seemed to hold its breath, waiting for something. Yunjin swallowed hard, feeling the weight of the unspoken words between them.
"Chaewon," she began, her voice barely above a whisper. "I... I've been wanting to tell you something."
Chaewon's heart skipped a beat. She took a step closer, her eyes searching Yunjin's. "What is it?"
Yunjin hesitated, her fingers fidgeting with the guitar strings. "I think... I think I'm starting to feel something for you. Something more than just friendship."
Chaewon's breath caught in her throat. She felt her cheeks flush, but she didn't look away. "I... I've been feeling it too," she admitted, her voice trembling with vulnerability.
Yunjin's eyes widened, a smile slowly spreading across her face. "Really?"
Chaewon nodded, her own smile breaking through. "Really."
For a moment, they stood there, just inches apart, the rest of the world fading into the background. Yunjin reached out, her hand gently brushing against Chaewon's.
"Then maybe," Yunjin said softly, "we can figure this out together?"
Chaewon's smile grew wider. "I'd like that," she whispered.
As they stood there, their hands intertwined, a new rhythm began to play in both their hearts. A melody of us, they thought, in perfect harmony.
