Cyrus felt a bit scared but pushed it down. his legs started shaking and trembling out of mere fear. He suddenly mustered up the courage and spoke once more, "Can you call my dad? I wanna go home... "
The older resident handed Cyrus a card with a full name on it that said, "John Jay Walkens." and the old man spoke up, "if ye see anything suspicious call me ill be on the case. mah full name is on there as well." John said in a serious tone of voice. He looked like he wasn't joking around.
Cyrus just looked at the man and nodded slowly before looking away. John got up and made his way to the wall phone. before talking again. "what is his phone number?" Cyrus gulped before speaking again in a high pitched voice. He was beyond unsettled by the earlier events and slightly unsettled by John since Cyrus didn't really know this old man.
Cyrus said, "44-01144-020-1632." Cyrus repeated at the top of his head, he barely remembered his fathers phone number. Cyrus had a feeling his dad wouldn't be very pleased since he seemed to be passed out in John's living room couch for a couple of hours.
As John finally picked up the wall phone and dialed the number Cyrus gave him, a concerned man laid across the other line. Richard was beyond scared, he even tried calling the school and even almost called the police. Cyrus could hear what John was saying but couldn't hear what his dad was talking about. John went on and on. Telling him that he had found Cyrus on his front driveway and how Cyrus had passed out in his arms.
"Mr. Richard I am sorry that I could't contact you sooner but perhaps you could come get him? he's just resting at te moment. I would also like to inform ye that I had noticed his knees and elbows were scraped an cut pretty badly."
Cyrus sat up and waited with John for a couple of minutes before a car pulled up in John's driveway. The car, 2010s Hatchback. A man got out of the car, Richard. Richard went up to the front door and knocked repeatable.
John got up from the couch and quickly walked over to the door. As john opened the door Richard was standing on the other end, on the porch facing the door with his hand raised in a fist ready to knock again. Richard stopped his hand in mid air since the door finally opened.
Richard pushed John aside and quickly made his way to the living room and didn't seem happy at all.. it was quite the opposite. Richards mouth opened but John's voice came out faster. "it was nice having ye guys over but please carry on yer way."
Richard yanked Cyrus up to his feet and dragged him by the arm to the Hatchback. Richard yanked him into the passenger seat before going to the other side and getting into the drivers seat. Richard put the car key into his car and started it. Instead of putting the handle into driving position Richard kept it in Parking Position.
Richard spoke up in an angry tone as he clenched the steering wheel with a strong angry force. "What were you thinking!? I was worried sick! I called the school and they told me you hadn't been to most of the afternoon classes!? are you out of your mind!? do you know how much I pay for your school education??"
Cyrus sheepishly looked down and tried defending his actions. "well some kids wer-" before he could finish his sentence he was interrupted.
Richard spoke in an Authoritative tone that made Cyrus shiver and gulp at the same time.. "I don't want to hear your excuses! I can BARELY afford our house! I had to take out a mortgage, just to buy a proper living situation for you! I have to save up as much as possible just to pay our bills, get us food and water, and for your school and the kinds of supplies you need!"
Cyrus looked out of the passenger seats window as tears pricked out of his eyes. It had started raining again and turned even more foggier than before. Cyrus felt the unwanted tears start to fall down his freckled, vitiligo cheeks. He looked over at his father and bit the inside of his mouth to stifle his cries.
Cyrus spoke in a teary tone that seemed to be breaking in the process. "Really? maybe you could have provided more for me and gave me a better life than spending money on alcohol... you keep saying how you always wanted better for me and how you try save up a lot for me but then go save up some other money so you can buy alcohol.."
Richard stared at his son wide eyed with complete anger before angrily slapping him hard on the cheek leaving a red mark and a bruise in the waking. Richard took a deep breath and turned the car into driving position and started driving. As the car drove through the empty roads Cyrus was thinking about how he just wanted to disappear.
Cyrus just wanted somebody, just someone to understand him or at least put in the effort to.. The drive was long and quiet.
The only sound that was heard was the raindrops on the windshield. The rain was surprisingly heavy and by now it was late midnight. the atmosphere just made Cyrus want to scream and cry until his lungs gave out. Cyrus held it in though so his dad wouldn't know. Richard thought that boys shouldn't cry..
Cyrus wanted to speak up and apologize but the slap made everything numb between them. he didn't even want to look at his own father... Cyrus felt like a disgrace anytime he was by Richard but now. He felt like a burden.. He was always at the wrong place at the wrong time and this was the consequence to that. Cyrus always wondered if his life would've been different if his mother didn't die.
