They needed a break after all of that running they just did, didn't they? Despite William's reluctance and Christopher's insults regarding their stamina, they took a seat by the river, close enough for the cold breeze to cool them off but not close enough to be dragged underwater if anything was lurking down there.
There was silence, for the most part. Sometimes, the sound of William's pen scratching against his notebook could be heard, but it wasn't loud enough to break the tension. They weren't all that close, after all.
"When'd it get so cold...? It was fine a few seconds ago..." Ophelia mumbled, her voice trembling as her body began to shake.
"Cold?" William repeated, his voice stern but not unkind as he slid his jacket off and wrapped it around Ophelia's shoulders.
"Thanks... Gosh, why am I so cold?" Ophelia complained, balling herself up in an effort to stay warm.
Suddenly, there was a rustling behind the bushes.
"Gold, what the hell is that noise?" Christopher groaned, bothered after being woken up by his impromptu, short nap.
"Why don't you check it out if you're so tough? I'm busy," William responded, his voice monotone as he continued to jot down information in his notebook.
"Watch your mouth before I burn it off, you-" Christopher threatened before getting interrupted by a loud chuckle.
"Still bickering, are we? Funnily enough, I don't think you two will ever grow out of it," a deep voice boomed from behind the foliage, slowly getting louder as the person inched closer.
"Who's this moron?" Christopher spat, a scowl growing on his face.
As Delilah scanned the others' faces, they all seemed confused...
Except for William.
