Norman x Ray from the promised Neverland
!!they are both around 15-16 years old and have escaped already!!

It was an overcast day, the kind where the clouds seemed to hang low, as if they carried the weight of the world. Ray hadn’t left his room since early morning, the darkness within the space a stark contrast to the muted light that seeped through the curtains. The silence was heavy, broken only by the occasional creak of the house, a reminder of the emptiness that echoed around him.

Today wasn’t just any day. It was *that* day.

The day he had betrayed them.

The memories played on a loop in his mind—Conny’s innocent smile, the dreadful revelation, and the guilt that had consumed him ever since. It didn’t matter that they had all escaped the orphanage, that they had survived and carved out new lives for themselves. The trauma of that day still clung to Ray like a second skin, one he couldn’t shed no matter how hard he tried.

His "parents"—the couple who had taken him in after their escape—were away on a business trip, leaving Ray alone in the house. The solitude was both a curse and a comfort, giving him the space to wallow in his thoughts without having to put on a façade. He had skipped school today, unable to face the world with the weight of his past pressing down on him.

Ray lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling as if it held the answers to the questions he had been asking himself for years. He wondered if he’d ever truly be free of this guilt, or if it would haunt him for the rest of his life. His heart ached with the heaviness of the memories, and he felt as though he was drowning in them, unable to breathe.

A soft knock on his bedroom door pulled him out of his thoughts. For a moment, Ray considered ignoring it, but the knock came again, more insistent this time. With a sigh, he forced himself to sit up, the motion feeling like an enormous effort.

“Ray? It’s me, Emma. Are you in there?” Emma’s voice was gentle but carried a note of concern that Ray knew all too well.

Ray blinked in surprise. Emma was here? He hadn’t expected anyone to come by today, especially since he hadn’t told anyone where he would be. But Emma had always been perceptive, and it didn’t surprise him that she had figured out where he was.

Before he could respond, there was another knock, this time a bit louder, followed by a familiar voice that made Ray’s heart skip a beat.

“Ray, it’s Norman. Can we come in?”

Norman.

The mere sound of his voice was enough to make Ray’s chest tighten, but not in a painful way. It was a feeling of comfort, of safety—something Ray hadn’t felt since this morning.

Ray hesitated for a moment before standing up and walking over to the door. His hand lingered on the doorknob, as if he was unsure whether he was ready to face them, but the thought of Norman and Emma waiting on the other side gave him the strength to turn the knob.

The door creaked open, revealing Emma’s concerned face and Norman’s calm, steady gaze. The sight of them standing there—his two best friends, the people who had been with him through everything—sent a wave of emotion crashing over Ray.

“Hey,” he managed to say, his voice hoarse.

“Hey,” Emma replied softly, her eyes full of empathy. “We were worried about you when you didn’t show up at school.”

Ray opened his mouth to reply, but the words caught in his throat. Instead, he simply stepped aside, allowing them to enter his room. Emma walked in first, quickly moving to his side and wrapping him in a warm hug. Ray tensed for a moment before relaxing into her embrace, feeling the warmth of her presence seep into his bones.
