It was a cold Saturday afternoon, and Yuji's living room was filled with the sounds of shuffling papers and quiet laughter. A group project had brought Yuji’s friends over to his house, and while they were theoretically supposed to be working, productivity was low as they huddled together for warmth. Nobara, half on Maki's lap, fiddled with a pencil while resting her head on Maki’s shoulder. Across from them, Toga was tucked against Yuta's side, both cuddling beneath a shared blanket.

Yuji was trying to focus on the project, though his mind kept wandering to Megumi, who was sitting next to him, leaning over the table. Megumi’s pretty, sharp features were somehow even more mesmerizing up close, especially with his black hair falling messily over his eyes.

“Hey, Yuji,” Nobara smirked, interrupting his thoughts, “you’re staring.”

Yuji’s face went bright red, and he laughed nervously. “W-What? No! I was just... uh... thinking about the project!”

Megumi glanced up, unimpressed. “What project? You’ve barely looked at your notes.”

Yuji coughed, his face only getting redder as the others snickered. Everyone knew about his huge crush on Megumi, and they’d made it their mission to ‘help him out,’ as they called it. Nobara, Maki, Toga, and Yuta were constantly teasing him about it, making suggestions or, sometimes, openly urging him to “just make a move already.”

The warmth of the room was suddenly interrupted by the sound of the front door creaking open. A deep, raspy voice cut through the air, sending a jolt through everyone present. “Yo, Yuji. I’m home.”

All heads, except for Megumi’s, snapped towards the doorway, where a figure loomed. Sukuna, Yuji’s older brother, stepped inside, taking a drag of his cigarette before blowing the smoke to the side. For a moment, the friends were silent, taking in the tall, tattooed man who looked more like he belonged in a gang than as a sibling to their goofy friend Yuji. His presence seemed to fill the room, every tattooed muscle outlined beneath his shirt as he surveyed them with a half-smirk.

Sukuna’s eyes swept over each of Yuji’s friends, but they lingered on one person a moment longer—Megumi. The two of them locked eyes briefly. Megumi held his gaze, though it was more out of a lack of interest than intimidation. Sukuna's smirk grew a little wider, his stare intense. But Megumi didn’t seem impressed; he just looked back down at his notebook as if nothing happened.

Yuji, noticing his brother’s unwavering focus on Megumi, decided to break the silence. “Uh, hey, Sukuna! We were, uh… thinking of ordering food. Want anything?”

Sukuna shook his head, looking at Yuji but clearly still half-focused on the boy sitting next to him. “I’m good,” he said, his voice low and gravelly. “Just came to grab a few things. Don’t let me interrupt.”

With that, he gave Megumi one last, unreadable glance before heading upstairs. The door to his room clicked shut behind him, leaving a heavy silence.

Yuta and Toga exchanged wide-eyed glances. “Damn,” Toga whispered. “Did you guys see that? He’s intense.”

Maki nodded. “I knew Yuji had an older brother, but I didn’t think he’d look like… that.”

Nobara burst out laughing, unable to hold back anymore. “Yuji, why didn’t you tell us your brother is some sort of… tattooed muscle god?”

Yuji squirmed uncomfortably, his cheeks red. “Yeah, well… he’s kind of intense. It’s not like he’s here much anyway; he’s usually working.”

Yuta chuckled, nudging Toga. “Explains a lot, huh? I’d be on edge too if that guy was my brother.”

But then, to everyone’s surprise, Megumi muttered, almost under his breath, “Honestly, your brother looks like an arrogant asshole.”

The room fell into shocked silence as everyone gaped at Megumi. Nobara covered her mouth, trying to stifle her laughter, while Yuji looked utterly bewildered. Megumi hardly ever used language like that, and it was clear that Sukuna had left quite the impression.

“Wait, you think Sukuna’s arrogant?” Yuji stammered, still processing the words. “I didn’t even know you thought stuff like that!”

Megumi shrugged, unbothered. “I’m just saying what I see. You’re so chill, but he’s… intense in a way that feels over the top.”

Nobara seized on the opportunity to shift the focus. “Well, now that we know how Megumi feels about Sukuna, let’s go back to something more interesting—ordering food!”

They laughed, but Megumi’s comment lingered in the air, almost like a challenge. Yuji couldn’t help but feel a little worried; Megumi was his best friend, and he didn’t want any tension between him and Sukuna.

The group finally placed their food order, and, as they waited for it to arrive, they got back to work. Yuji tried to concentrate, but his eyes kept drifting back to Megumi, especially as Nobara leaned over to whisper to Maki.

“Megumi’s got Yuji wrapped around his finger. You think he has any idea?”

Maki raised an eyebrow. “Doubt it. Look at him—he’s oblivious. Yuji’s probably too shy to say anything anyway.”

Nobara grinned. “I dunno… after that scene with Sukuna, maybe Yuji will finally make a move.”

It wasn’t long before Sukuna came downstairs again, his steps heavy as he made his way towards the kitchen. He paused in the doorway, watching them from the corner of his eye. His gaze settled on Megumi again, who didn’t bother to look up. Sukuna clicked his tongue and shook his head, chuckling softly to himself.

“Yuji, you could do with better friends,” Sukuna said, his eyes lingering on Megumi.

Megumi lifted his head, meeting Sukuna’s eyes with a challenging stare. “And you could do with better manners.”

Nobara gasped dramatically, while Yuta muttered, “This is like watching a showdown…”

Sukuna only laughed, unbothered by Megumi’s words. “Touché,” he said, heading into the kitchen. “Keep up that attitude, brat, and see where it gets you.”

Once he was gone, Nobara let out a long breath, her eyes wide. “Yuji, if this is what your home life is like, I don’t know how you’re still sane.”

“Hey!” Yuji protested. “It’s not always like this!”

But the truth was, he couldn’t help feeling a strange sort of jealousy at the back-and-forth between Sukuna and Megumi. He wanted Megumi’s attention, even if it was just casual conversation. But Megumi’s icy response to Sukuna only fueled his desire to make sure things between them stayed… uncomplicated.

“Food’s here!” Nobara called as the doorbell rang. They all piled into the kitchen, the tension dissolving as they dug into their takeout and resumed laughing and chatting. But every now and then, Yuji’s eyes would drift to Sukuna, leaning against the wall, smoking quietly as he watched Megumi with an unreadable expression. And every time Megumi looked up, he’d meet Sukuna’s gaze with the same cool defiance.

Yuji knew this was just the beginning of something. He wasn’t sure if he was thrilled or absolutely terrified.
