When he woke up, he felt a headache similar to a hangover from one of the few feasts on Olympus that he had attended. Unfortunately, instead of his hair being torn apart by sleeping in an unnatural position, he felt a bandage wrapped around his head.
His back was also taking its toll, but not only because of the orc's blow. Both his pillow and mattress were filled with straw. A god used to sleeping in silks and duvets, who on top of that found himself in an extremely weak body, had to feel the consequences.
He looked around the room, not seeing anything out of the ordinary. A few simple, wooden pieces of furniture that had seen better days. The walls were devoid of any paint. In one of them was a broken window, probably damaged during the monster raid. There was not even a floor, only the ground trampled by feet. Amid all this not-so-sublime surroundings, he found something, or rather someone worthy of attention.
Cora was sleeping, leaning against her own hands lying on the edge of Hades' bed. He, remembering the girl's injury at the goblin's hands, leaned out to look at her leg. Like in case of his own head, he saw a bandage on the brown-haired woman's thigh.

- Pathetic - he said to himself.

How pathetic you must be to can't protect those you love, he thought. I shouldn't have thought so much, but come down here and help her. Truly a worthless god I am
The king of the Underworld gently stroked the sleeping woman's hair. Through this gesture, he wanted to apologize for his incompetence and thank her for watching over him.
Peasant woken by the ruffling of her hair, blinked her eyes a few times before turning them to the man sitting above her.

- Hello - god of death said in a soft and calm voice that didn't match his emotionless facial expression.

Black-eyed immediately jumped away from the bed as if burned, then fell to her knees, and then pressed her face to the ground.

- I'm so sorry! - she screamed, terrified.

This time it was the lord of the dead who blinked his eyes several times, completely unaware of what was going on.

- For what exactly? - he asked, confused.

- For having the courage to approach you... sir... your high... your godly...

- Hades - he interrupted the woman who was trying to find the appropriate salutation.

- E-excuse me? - she replied shyly.

- My name is Hades.

- Mr. Ha...

- Just Hades - he cut her off again without even a hint of emotion. - Besides, I don't understand why you're so sorry to me.

Cora turned her face to the ground again. This could have been a test devised by the god, designed to test her humility.

- For allowing myself to get close to you, sir - she said, her forehead pressed to the makeshift floor.

- I've already told you that you don't have to call me by any title - he repeated as calmly as before. - Besides, approaching me is no crime."

- But you are a god! You saved us, and we force you to sleep in this poor house! This is.. - she stopped, realizing that she had raised her voice to a being who could erase her existence with one finger.

- Stand up, - he said in a voice that was neither lenient nor angry.

Cora immediately rose to her feet as ordered, but kept her head down.

- Look at me - he commanded, rising from the bed and walking one step closer to the mortal.

The woman did as she was told with fear. She had allowed herself too much. How could she have been so stupid as to yell at a god? And she did this after he had shown his favor to her village by descending from heaven specifically to help them.
She had expected to see eyes burning with anger at her supposed arrogance. Instead, she saw a gentle gaze full of warmth and understanding. It reminded her of when, as a little girl, she had broken a clay jug of milk, and instead of scolding her, her father had only tenderly told her that he didn't like it anyway.
