"Run! Don't look back-just run!" That was what her father had told the little girl as she pushed her way through the dense forest undergrowth, dirtying and scraping her bare feet against the earth and stones.
Daddy had told her to run and not look back, so that was exactly what she did.
She did not stare at the column of black smoke rising toward the sky as branches and bushes sliced her skin.
She did not turn her head in response to the fading screams of men being slowly murdered in the distance and women being brutally raped.
When she stumbled over protruding tree roots and fell, she did not glance over her shoulder, even though she had the distinct impression that she could hear footsteps behind her matching the pace of her run.
She did not dare look, despite the fact that she could have sworn someone's disgusting, slippery breath was coating the back of her neck.
She did not look back because daddy had forbidden it.
Her daddy was a wise and good man. He always played with her after work and told her bedtime stories before she went to sleep, but he also forbade things that he believed could harm her.
A year earlier, their apple tree had produced an exceptionally generous harvest, yielding nearly a hundred sweet little red apples. She had happily eaten one, then another, but when she reached for a third, daddy told her she had had enough for the day or she would get diarrhea.
She hadn't listened.
She devoured four more apples while he wasn't looking, and instead of spending the night in her bed, she spent it hunched over a chamber pot.
Yes, it was better to listen to her papa.
She didn't look behind her. She didn't want to look. She wasn't allowed to look, but... she could feel someone yanking a hair from her beautiful blonde ponytail every few seconds-the very ponytail her friends envied.
At last, she couldn't take it anymore.
She stopped, driven by curiosity, irritation, aching feet, and a lack of breath. The moment she did, she stopped hearing the footsteps behind her. She no longer felt her hair being pulled out, but that horrible, sticky breath still haunted her.
The little girl disobeyed her father and looked back.

- Yo - said the smiling werewolf.

And then, with his bare hand, he tore her heart from her chest.
