What brings happiness? Some would say love, family, and friendship. Others would claim it is a solid roof over one’s head, delicious food, and wealth.
That night, all the inhabitants of a certain small village—regardless of their beliefs—lost their happiness.
Their homes burned along with the children trapped inside them. The kids were unable to open the barred doors, and those who tried to escape through the windows were impaled on spear tips by the criminals waiting for them.
All of this happened before the eyes of their families, who met their own torment after their children had turned to smoke and ash.
The men were forced to fight each other to the death, with the victor promised freedom, but the fratricide was never granted the reward he had been promised.
The women were humiliated and raped slowly, unhurriedly—not merely for sexual satisfaction, but for the cruel entertainment of hearing their screams and licking the tears from their cheeks. When the tormentors had exhausted their strength for such dark pleasures, the victims were thrown into cages to await what would come next. Within a week, all of them had passed on to the Upper World through torture and extreme exhaustion.
The elderly were tested to see how long they could run behind the horses to which they were tied, until they finally collapsed from exhaustion and died, their bodies smeared across the ground as the animals continued their relentless gallop.
Over it all watched and rejoiced a certain god of death with a thick black beard, sipping wine from a skull hollowed out with an opening.
