"Gaano po kaclose?" Martina asked.
Sabrina nudged Martina with her elbow, stifling a laugh.
"Ay, sorry boss! Hehe, paano po pala?" Martina asked, trying to keep her composure.
"Go to my office after 30 minutes. May kailangan lang akong asikasuhin muna," Alex replied, her tone firm but not unkind.
The other interns watched the exchange with interest, aware that Martina had a special connection to the hospital, but none of them dared to comment. They knew that Martina would soon have a significant role in the hospital's future, so they stayed quiet, focusing on their own tasks.
Martina hadn't had the chance to return Alex's phone, but luckily, she had brought it with her so she could finally give it back. She took a deep breath before knocking on Alex's office door, her heart pounding after anxiously waiting for 30 minutes.
"Come in!" Alex called out. Martina opened the door gently and stepped inside.
"Take your seat," Alex said, motioning toward the three-seater couch inside her office, while she remained behind her desk.
Martina sat down, trying to calm her nerves as she waited for Alex, who was still typing on her laptop. Suddenly, Alex picked up something from the side of her desk. Martina's eyes widened when she saw the bouquet of red roses wrapped neatly in black paper. Alex stood up and handed the bouquet to Martina, their hands brushing together, sending a jolt of electricity through them both.
"For you," Alex said softly. "Peace offering from last time."
Martina's heart raced even faster. "Di naman kailangan eh. Naiintindihan ko naman. Pero thanks," she replied, a small smile on her lips.
Alex sat beside her, turning slightly to face Martina. She took a deep breath, but before she could say anything, Martina reached into her pocket and pulled out a phone.
"Di ko na nabalik. Sorry, deadbatt na 'yan," Martina apologized, handing the phone to Alex.
"Uhh, thanks. Halos work phone kasi gamit ko. Nakalimutan ko na itong personal phone ko. Gamit ko lang kasi 'to pag nagtatravel," Alex explained.
Martina's eyes widened, wondering if Alex remembered going to the secluded island. "Mahilig ka magtravel? Saan last punta mo?" she asked, trying to sound casual.
"Actually... hindi. Halos lahat seminars lang, but I love camping," Alex shared.
Martina felt a pang of disappointment. Maybe it really was a ghost or someone else—maybe even a twin. But she didn't want to push too hard, deciding she'd ask another time.
"Ah, okay. So, ano tasks ko?" Martina asked, changing the subject.
"Depende sa mood ko. Wala pa akong maisip," Alex replied, her tone turning more serious.
Weird. Gusto mo lang ata akong kasama, baby eh. Hui! Martina thought to herself.
"Ah, sige. Can I go now?" Martina asked, standing up. "Just message me if may kailangan ka."
"Lock the door," Alex commanded, her voice firm.
"Boss... wag naman sa oras ng trabaho," Martina said softly, feeling her cheeks heat up.
Alex stood up then turned around, pretending to check something on her desk, but secretly, she was trying to hide her laughter.
"Palock 'yung pinto pagkaalis mo," Alex clarified without looking at Martina, before sitting back behind her desk.
