I was just a normal girl, with normal (well, I'm not going to lie, my friends were weird creatures) friends, with a stressful but normal life. But nothing prepared what was to come. My mom getting a new job and moving me, my sister, and niece from my somewhat-smallish city in North Florida to big and busy South Florida, Hollywood.

We approached a magnificent villa at the end of the street. It was big enough for the four of us and maybe a couple of friends if they wanted to stay over. It was set on 3/4 an acre of land and was surrounded by palm trees and bushes, giving the house a bit of privacy from onlookers. The vibrant green grass was trimmed perfectly while the hedges neatly taken care of, no stray twigs or leaves growing out from them. The house it self had a driveway that curved off to the front door, in between two pillars making it seem like a grand entrance. There was a pool out back, grotto style, enclosed.
I stepped out of the car as soon as my mom parked it in the driveway, examining the new place I would be calling home for god knows how long. To me, it was beautiful, the absolute perfect place for me to live, but I was still upset that I moved more than 500 miles away from my life. I walked up the two-stepped porch and opened the front door. It was amazing on the inside! The foyer was an off-white color with white tiles laying out throughout the spacious house, an ebony ceiling fan hung above me with gold accents on them. I sauntered into the livingroom which had been one of the biggest ones I'd seen in my life. It had large panoramic windows outlooking the pool. It was already furnished because that's the way my mom rented it. I explored the rest of the house, finding out it has four good sized bedrooms, one master and one queen size (both with en-suite bathrooms) and two further bedrooms across the other side of the house. There were two sitting areas, one overlooked by the kitchen and fitted with comfortable seating and an entertainment center with video, DVD, and large cable TV. The second sitting area was separate from the first and is suitable for sitting quietly or having a quiet drink in the evening whilst overlooking the illuminated 28ft pool and fountain. This house was absolutely perfect.
I trudged back outside in the beating sunlight, seeing my mom unloading boxes and putting them in the driveway behind the car. "Need any help?" I ask, shoving my hands in my pockets.
She grunted, she had most of the boxes out already, "Yeah, just get the rest of the boxes out of the car & I'll start taking some in." She walked away with two of them cradled in her arms, my four year old niece following behind. My sister shot out of the car to me, her jet black hair swinging at her shoulders, her caramel skin gleaming in the sunlight, "How do you like it here, Kay?"
A gasp escaped from my mouth, "I don't know, Sami, I mean it seems nice here and the house is amazing but I don't wanna be here..."
Sami made a hmph before grabbing a box with her name on it and heading in the house. I turned my shoulders and lumbered toward the car, heaving the rest of the boxes out of the car. I stayed outside for the next 30 minutes forcing boxes, suitcases, and accessories out of the car, sweat beating down on my forehead. I had my back turned when I felt someone approach me from behind and tap my shoulder. I forced myself to turn and face the stranger.
"Hi, you're the new neighbors, right?" The boy asked. He looked about my age, 16, or maybe a year or two older. He had short curly hair, his hazel eyes seemed to shift colors as he stood in the rays of the sunlight with his eyes on me. I watched them, they were quite interesting. I shifted where I stood.
"Well I'm guessing so, considering the boxes," I laughed at my own horrible sense of humor, taking a deep breath before starting again, "Yeah but we're the newbies around here..." The boy stared at me so I quickly responded, "I'm sorry, I'm just really weird... I have to apologize in advance.."
"It's alright," He giggled a bit, "I'm sort of new here too.. I live 3 houses down.."
I started cracking my knuckles, a force of habit when I'm nervous, he gazed into my dull brown eyes and I got cold sweats. He extended me his hand and I gladly took a hold of it, shaking it, he said "Nice to meet you, uhh, wait, I never got your name..."
"Oh, yeah! My name's Kay!" The words just shot out, "Oops, I mean Kaden! Kaden James! My family calls me Kay for short.."
He smiled, showing his perfect teeth as he backed down my driveway, giving me a wave, "Well, I have to go to work. See ya around?"
I giggled, "Sure! But wait!" I called out to him as he was jogging down the road, "I never got your name!!"
He stopped and flashed me another smile, "My name's Austin."
"Does Austin have a last name or...?"
He shot me a side grin before taking off down my driveway, down the street which he'd came, humming to himself.
"Austin!"
"Say my name, say my name!" He turned on his heels, saluting me as he continued walking, "Mahone!"
Did he just call me shit? "What!?"
"Mahone!" He giggled, "My last name's Mahone!"
I scrunched my nose, that's a weird one. There was something about that name that rung a bell. I couldn't quite put my finger on it but I felt like I've seen or heard of him before. Something in my gut told me I knew this kid from somewhere. I guess I'll find out eventually.
