Shubman Gill was lounging around in his family house, sprawled across the living room couch with a book in hand, when he heard the faint sound of his mother's voice drifting through the hallway.
"Shubman, come on! We need to get going. The Ashvins are expecting us!" Keart Gill called out from the other side of the door.
Shubman groaned, his face scrunching up in reluctant annoyance. He tossed the book aside and trudged toward his room to get ready.
He quickly donned a white kurta paired with blue jeans, his casual look a far cry from the formality he was feeling.
As he stepped outside into the sunlit backyard of the Ashvins' house, he tried to shake off his lingering irritation.
The garden was spacious and well-kept, with blooming flowers and neatly trimmed hedges. Shubman meandered around, scanning the area for some sign of the family he was supposed to visit.
Just as he was beginning to zone out, he heard the crunch of footsteps on the gravel path. He turned, and his jaw nearly hit the floor.
Standing before him, looking as stunning as ever in a white chikankari kurti and blue jeans, was Evara Ashvin.
The delicate embroidery of her kurti shimmered in the sunlight, perfectly complementing her casual jeans. Her hair fell in soft waves around her shoulders, and her eyes widened in surprise when they met his.
Shubman blinked in disbelief, his mouth slightly agape. "Evara? What are you doing here?"
Evara looked just as astonished. "Shubman? What the hell are you doing here?"
The two of them stood there, processing the surreal situation, before Evara let out a disbelieving laugh. "This is absolutely insane. Are your family and my family really friends?"
Shubman chuckled, shaking his head in amazement. "Apparently so. I had no clue it was the Ashvins we were visiting. I'm still trying to figure out how this happened."
Evara raised an eyebrow, her tone a mix of amusement and mock annoyance. "Well, my family pulled me along here too. And to think, I was just about to relax with some music and now I'm face-to-face with you in the middle of this garden."
Shubman shrugged, a sheepish grin on his face. "Looks like we're both in the same boat. At least we get to be confused together."
Just then, Shubman's mom, Keart, appeared around the corner, her face lighting up when she saw Evara. "Oh, Evara! What a delightful surprise! I didn't realize you were the Ashvins' daughter. What a small world!"
