Emersyn drove through the night, passing through a town that would alter her life irrevocably.
On the same night that Klaus Mikaelson broke his hybrid curse.
The air grew cooler as she approached the town's entrance, and an unsettling shift seemed to ripple through the atmosphere.
Her heart raced, a jolt of unease causing her grip on the steering wheel to tighten.
Without warning, she lost consciousness, her car veering off the road and crashing violently into a tree. The impact left her slumped over the steering wheel, a crimson streak seeping from a gash on her forehead.
Hours later, the moonlight cast an ethereal glow over a lone figure emerging from the shadows, drawn by the scent of her blood.
His expression was a blend of calm and intensity, his eyes shimmering with a predatory gleam as he approached the wrecked vehicle.
With deliberate, practiced movements, he wrenched open the car door and carefully lifted her limp form into his arms.
Cradling her as if she were the most precious thing, he swiftly transported her to the nearest hospital.
Inside the emergency room, he laid her gently on an empty bed, his demeanor a mixture of urgency and tenderness.
With a commanding gaze, he compelled the doctor to forget his presence, ensuring that no one would remember his intervention.
Once satisfied that she was in capable hands, he vanished as quietly as he had arrived, merging with the night.
When Emersyn awoke, her mind was shrouded in a thick fog, the previous night's events a vague blur. As she propped herself up, the throbbing in her head had lessened. Her eyes adjusted to the sterile environment of the hospital room.
The door creaked open, and a doctor entered with a warm smile, though his eyes betrayed a flicker of curiosity. His posture was relaxed, but his gaze remained sharp.
"Well, you're awake!" he announced, his voice cheerful but edged with a hint of scrutiny.
Emersyn squinted, trying to piece together her fragmented memories. "What happened?" she asked, her voice wavering with confusion as she closed her eyes momentarily.
"You were in a car accident," the doctor explained, maintaining steady eye contact. "Fortunately, some people found you and brought you here. Your injuries weren't serious, but you did hurt your head pretty badly when it hit the wheel. We've cleaned and stitched the wound, and you're good to go!"
A wave of relief washed over Emersyn. She managed a grateful smile, her eyes reflecting a mix of gratitude and lingering concern. "Thank you. Where are the people who brought me here? I'd like to thank them."
The doctor's expression shifted to one of mild regret. "Unfortunately, they left before you woke up. They waited to ensure you were okay and left once they knew you were out of danger." He paused, his pen hovering above his clipboard. "What's your name so I can prepare your discharge papers?"
"Emersyn, Emersyn Smith " she replied, noting the subtle hesitation in the doctor's voice that made her frown slightly. Something about his demeanor seemed off, but she chose not to dwell on it.
"Emersyn," the doctor repeated, nodding as he scribbled on his clipboard. "Interesting name. Are you from around here? If not, what brings you to Mystic Falls?"
Emersyn hesitated, carefully weighing her response. "Just passing through," she said cautiously, her eyes scanning the doctor for any sign of deceit.
The doctor offered a polite smile, though his eyes remained unreadable. "Well, Emersyn, I'll get your discharge papers ready. Take care of yourself, and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask."
