Akiko understood that she might've jumped the gun when it came to trusting this random foreigner that had rescued one of the kids she babysitted for extra cash.

But it was not like she had much of a choice, Fuyuki would not let the man go and she was both on a clock and facing the reality of the ending of the world.

She took what she could get and if she had to follow a cosplayer with some Kendo lessons to ensure the safety of a boy she'd practically raised since she was a middle schooler- she would.

But nah, of course the cosplayer couldn't be normal- even by their standards- he was a fucking magician.

She'd been following a man that could shoot fire from his fingertips!

No, she wasn't in denial.

Why would she be? She herself was a witness a giant sea snake that made her inner sailor pop enough curses to kill her aunts in horror.

Why? Thats simple, the thing targeted her on sight!

She only survived because she watched one too many movies and started spraying her perfume on multiple cars to make it harder to track her scent

Then she threw glass bottles from nearby vending machines in the opposite direction of where she was headed.

She used the tricks she learned from playing horror games and Jurassic Park and it worked.

So, call her crazy but she was high of adrenaline and the dopamine rush from outsmarting the behemoth.

Also... a small part of her knew she would have no idea what to do after finding Fuyuki.

She had a feeling that locking herself up in a safehouse wasn't the answer and she had no way to reach any adults.

So, seeing that Fuyuki had found two adults that seemed responsible she latched on for dear life to that dopamine and hoped she made the right choice.

Which ultimately, she had.

Any dude that could make fire from his fingertips was a good guy to have around during an apocalypse.

So, why did she scream? Why did she risk offending the dude she had the highest chance of survival with?

Because she's a teenager dealing with traumatic experiences? Nah, that was too big of can of worms to open, she wanted to stick with an easy answer.

She was just being a fool.

"Is something wrong Akiko?!" Yelled Fuyuki from another room in the house.

"I- No, of course not, Fuyuki!"

"Then why did you scream?"

"I saw a roach the size of my palm in one of the cabinets, sorry!" She lied smoothly.

"Ok!"

Akiko turned back to the blue-haired cosplayer with a critical look.

"Look, I'm sorry but would you be a dear and fully introduce yourself?" Her voice was strained to a pained falsetto.

For his credit Mr. Cosplayer's face betrayed no sense offense toward her past outburst.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, I am Byleth Eisner a Professor at Garreg Mach Monastery."

"Is that perhaps a university in the west?"

"Miss? I must apologize for any offense, but we're kind of on the clock here."

Right, she needed to get her priorities straight.

"Alright, let's keep at it."

The rest of time was spent in silence until Fuyuki showed up a pair of keys in his hands and Asuka with a wide assortment of cleaning supplies.
