TW: Past Self-h@rm references
It's been a few weeks since Nick and Charlie had their inspection to see if their house was good enough for them to adopt a child or two and to see if they would be fit parents.
This isn't their first Rodio with the interviews and inspection this is the fifth or sixth time that they've been through this, and they are slowly losing hope... well not Nick but Charlie has but with Nick on his side he's kept some confidence.
"Charlie, have you checked the mail yet?" Nick asks standing by the door getting ready to open it
"No not yet" Charlie says looking up from his laptop that he was doing work on.
Nick nods his head as he goes to step out the door to get the mail. Once he comes back inside Charlie looks up from his laptop to see what was in the mail.
"Bills, bank statements, notes from parents, publishing applications." then there it is the letter from the adoption agency letter to see if they passed the hardest part. Nicks hands start to shake, and Charlie can tell by his face that it must have been the letter.
"Is that the-" Charlie says as he closes the laptop.
"Letter" They both say at the same time.
Charlie stands up to walk towards the table with Nick so they can open the letter together as Daisy jumps off the couch with Charlie to follow him as well Nick and Charlie sit next to each other as they stare down the letter with Nicks hands rubbing Charlies knuckles to try to calm them both down.
"No matter what this paper says I need you to know that I love you so much and we can always try again if need be." Nick says laying his head onto Charlies
"Nick... I love you too so much, but this is the sixth time that we've been through this maybe if it says no that it's time to kiss our dream goodbye, I don't think it's going to happen." Charlie says trying to hold in the tears.
As soon as he says that Nick moves his head to look Charlie in the eyes.
"Charlie, I know how much you want this you've wanted kids ever since we talked about it one night in my dorm room! if it still says no, we can always figure something else out" Nick says rubbing away a fallen tear from Charlie's eye.
Before they open the letter Nick puts his forehead on Charlies and they both share a small kiss
"Okay ready?" Charlie says as he takes a deep breath.
"Ready if you are" Nick says putting his hand on Charlie's leg
Before they open, they both take a deep breath and together they pull out the letter.
"3...2...1" they both say as they start to read the letter together.
As they read the letter Charlie hands start to shake as he reads
" Dear, Nicholas and Charles Spring-Nelson
We regret to inform you that we do not want to proceed with the anymore of the adoption process this time we encourage you to try again at a different time please call us with any questions" As Charlie reads the letter, he can feel his heartbreak once again

"I can't do this anymore I just want to be a father, and I can't even have that" Charlie says with a Shakey voice.
"Charlie, it's okay we can try again soon!"
"No Nick it's not okay I know you want to be a father as well, but I messed it up I mess up everything just because of my inpatient trip! You probably want to leave me to be with someone who can give you that I'm so sorry"
Charlie tries to get up, but Nick quickly grabs his hand quickly and pulls him in for a quick peck
"Charlie my love please listen to have I have to say" Nick says as he wipes the tears going down Charlie's face
"I love you so much I know I want kids, and I know you want that to, but we don't have to give up yet! If it turns out, we can't adopt then we can't it doesn't matter I want to be with you as long as I have you, I'll be fine!"
"But I'm taking something away from you because I was selfish as a teenager, I mess up everything maybe I'm too messed up to even give a child a live that they deserve"
"No Charles you were not selfish! Never say that you're the most selfless person I've ever known! Do you remember when we first talked about want Children?"
"Of course, I remember!"
"Let me remind you again"
