The old ruins north of the fortress stood silent, a dark silhouette against the early morning sky. The air was thick with tension, a heavy weight pressing down on everyone who had gathered. In the distance, the city bells rang out, their tolling a grim reminder of the event about to unfold. Below the balcony, where Rose and Vampire King Drake stood, a sea of people had gathered, their faces a mix of fear, anger, and confusion.

At the center of it all, on his knees and bound with cruel silver wires that bit into his flesh, was the Wolf King. His wrists were raw and bloody, a testament to the struggle he had put up against his captors. But now, he was silent, his gaze distant as if he had already accepted his fate.

Rose stood behind him, her heart pounding in her chest. The crowd's gasps echoed in her ears as she pushed the Wolf King to his knees, their shock palpable. Someone shouted from below, a voice full of desperation, "Release him!"

Drake stepped forward, his cape billowing slightly in the cool breeze. He wore a crown, a symbol of the power he was about to seize. His voice, calm and commanding, rang out over the crowd. "I will lead you all from now on," he declared. "Under my leadership, you will prosper. The Wolf King does not deserve your loyalty. He is greedy, self-serving, and blind to the needs of his people."

As he spoke, Rose's mind raced. The words he said were ones she had heard before, ones that had made sense in the dark halls of his castle. But now, with the crowd watching, with the dagger hidden under her coat pressing against her side, something felt wrong. The clarity that had come to her at the lake with Alpha Chris was returning, and she felt the weight of her actions crashing down on her.

The crowd murmured, uneasy. They were torn, just as Rose had been. But Drake's influence was strong, his voice like a velvet noose tightening around their collective throats. He continued, "The Wolf King has failed you all. He's kept you in the shadows, while I offer you a future filled with light and prosperity."

Rose's hand brushed against the hilt of the dagger. Its touch was cool, grounding her in the storm of emotions threatening to overwhelm her. She glanced at Drake, who was now basking in the attention of the crowd. His smile was one of triumph, but to Rose, it looked like a predator's smile, a mask hiding the darkness within.

Without thinking, driven by a sudden surge of determination, Rose moved. The crystal dagger slid smoothly from under her coat, and in one swift motion, she drove it into Drake's back.

Time seemed to slow as the dagger sank in. For a brief, heart-stopping moment, Rose thought she had done it-ended his reign of terror in one decisive blow. But then, as if the dagger were nothing more than a pinprick, Drake turned to face her, his expression more disappointed than pained.
