Katie (Pidge) sat alone in her room, studying on the end of her bed. Clothes and crumpled pieces of paper were sprinkled around the floor. She had a huge headache, it felt like something had thrown an axe at her head.

knock knock

Katie looked up. "Come in!" She shouted.

Her brother, Matt, walked in with a plate in his hand.

"Hey Pidge!" He beamed, "Mom says it's time for dinner."

"I'll be down in a second—and don't call me that," she made annoyed look at her brother. She actually secretly felt more like herself when she was called that. Almost as if "Katie" wasn't her real name.

"Whatever you say, Katie," he said with an annoyed tone. "Hurry up, food is gettin' cold."

"Fine," she frowned as her brother left her room and shut her door. Before leaving the room, Katie took a quick look at her bedroom mirror. It's like the person looking back at her, wasn't her at all. She didn't understand this feeling—not feeling like yourself, not feeling comfortable in her body.

"Hurry up Katie!" Her mom shouted from downstairs.

"Jesus christ give me a fucking break," she said quietly under her breath. "I'm coming mom." Katie walked down the stairs with heavy steps. She sat down next her brother and began eating. "Thanks for dinner mom."

Her mom didn't respond. After a few minutes of the family eating dinner quietly, her mother began ranting. "When are you going to bring home a boy? You've been going to that stupid space training for what? 2 years? You're 15, it's about time you start dating."

Katie started at her food and didn't look up.

"Katie. Respond when I talk to you!" Her mom began to raise her voice. Katie refused to look up, but nodded.

"Yes mom. I'm sorry," Katie sighed. "I guess...I've just never found anyone I've really liked." She winced, wondering if her mom would take that as talking back.

"Well I'll be waiting," Katie's mom said sternly. "What if I just don't want a boyfriend?" Katie thought to herself. "Is that even possible? For someone to not want anything more than platonic love?"
