The morning sun filters through the curtains, casting soft, golden rays across my room. I stretch and yawn, the warmth of the sun gently coaxing me awake. I slip out of bed, my feet touching the cool floor as I start getting ready for school.
As I finish brushing my hair, I hear the faint sound of Mama's voice coming from the kitchen. I quickly dress and make my way downstairs, the delicious aroma of breakfast already wafting through the house.
When I enter the kitchen, I find Mama at the stove, flipping pancakes with practiced ease. The kitchen is filled with the sound of sizzling and the cheerful clatter of utensils.
She always cooks so good that I want to eat everything she cooks!
"Good morning, Mama!" I say, giving her a hug from behind. "Where's Papa?"
Mama looks over her shoulder and gives me a warm smile. "Good morning, Lilac! Papa had to leave early for an appointment, so I'll be taking you to school today."
"Oh, okay," I reply, a bit surprised but not unhappy. "I hope everything's alright with Papa."
Mama nods reassuringly. "Yes, everything's fine. He just had a few things to take care of this morning. But we'll have a nice drive to school together, and I'm sure we'll have a great day."
We finish breakfast, and soon it's time to head out. Mama grabs her keys, and we head to the car. The sky is clear and bright, the air crisp with the p r o m i s e of a beautiful day. As we drive toward school, Mama chats with me about the plans for the day and asks about any special events or projects.
When we pull up to the school, the familiar sight of the playground and the school building comes into view. I spot Quentin waiting by the entrance, his face lighting up when he sees us. He waves enthusiastically.
"Quentin!" I call out, excited to see him. "Come over here!"
Quentin walks over, a big grin on his face. "Hi, Lilac! Hi, Mrs. . . uhm. . . what is your name?"
I laugh. "This is my Mama, Aurelia. Mama, this is Quentin. We had so much fun together yesterday!"
Mama extends her hand to Quentin with a warm smile. "Nice to meet you, Quentin. Lilac's told me all about your adventures!"
Quentin shakes her hand, his cheeks flushing slightly with shyness. "Nice to meet you, too, Mrs. Aurelia. I had a great time with Lilac! We made up a lot of fun games."
