Ciara sat in the bridal suite, surrounded by the chaos of last-minute preparations. Stylists swooped around her, fussing with her veil and reapplying her lipstick, even though she thought it was fine the first time. She rolled her eyes, letting out a huff. The room was filled with chatter and excitement, but to Ciara, it was all just noise—annoying, endless noise that grated on her nerves. She glanced at herself in the mirror, pouting slightly. The dress was heavy and itchy, the corset too tight, and no matter how much everyone said she looked "perfect," it just didn't feel right.
"Ciara, you look stunning!" one of her bridesmaids gushed, but Ciara barely acknowledged it, her eyes drifting away in boredom. She picked at the lace of her gown, feeling trapped and uncomfortable. When the photographer came in, asking her to smile, Ciara groaned under her breath but put on a forced grin, the kind that never quite reached her eyes. Each click of the camera felt like a chore, and she couldn't wait for it to be over. She wanted to kick off the ridiculous heels and throw the bouquet into the nearest trash bin, but she knew she couldn't—not yet.
As Ciara stood near the doors that led to the aisle, the sounds of soft music and murmuring guests filtered through. She glanced back, wishing she could just run off or make a scene, but the reality of her arranged marriage to Jay put her on the losing game. She squeezed the bouquet a little too tightly, crumpling the delicate petals as she pouted again, feeling every bit like a child being dragged somewhere she didn't want to go.
"It's time," someone said, nudging her forward. Ciara sighed dramatically, rolling her eyes one last time before taking a slow and steady step. The doors loomed in front of her, and all she could think about was how unfair it all felt. She was about to walk into a future she hadn't chosen, and no amount of flowers or fancy dresses could make her feel better about it.
Ciara stepped into the ballroom, instantly spotting the sea of white roses, lavish tables, and glittering chandeliers above. The place screamed luxury, but to her, it felt more like a staged set than a celebration. Her family and friends were scattered at their tables, all eyes darting toward her with thinly veiled judgment.
As she walked down the aisle, Ciara caught sight of Jay standing beside the priest, his smug grin infuriatingly wide. He was clearly enjoying the spectacle, soaking in the attention. Ciara let out a small huff, her annoyance bubbling up, but she kept her stride steady, even as her mind screamed how much she hated this.
Reaching the end of the aisle, she stopped beside Jay, her forced smile barely holding up under the weight of it all. The priest began reciting the vows, but Ciara barely registered the words. She was too busy fuming, feeling trapped in a show that wasn't hers to direct.
The priest's voice was gentle as he asked, "Do you take this woman as your bride?"
Jay didn't hesitate, "Yes, I do."
