"Don't worry, she'll be alright."
The voice was soft and soothing, pulling you out of the darkness. Your vision was blurry at first, but as you tried to focus, you noticed the beeping of a monitor beside you. It seemed you were in a hospital. You carefully lifted your head, which still throbbed with pain.
"Oh, she's awake now,"
You saw a striking woman with light blue feathered bangs and distinctive red eyes. She was standing beside Veneer, who sat in an armchair. His worried expression features into relief as he noticed you had regained consciousness.
"Y/N, thank goodness," Veneer said, rising quickly and moving to your side. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
You felt disoriented, overwhelmed by his sudden appearance, and unsure of what had happened.
"W-what happened? Why am I here?" you asked, struggling to piece things together.
Veneer's face showed a sensation of disbelief and worry. "You don't remember? You texted me your location, saying you needed help. I was worried, so I went there and..." He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. "I found you lying on the ground near the nightclub, unresponsive."
He reached out to gently take your hand, his worry visible."You seemed to be in a bad state. I'm just glad you're awake now."
Gathering the fragments of your memory, you began to piece together the night. The nightclub came back into focus, but the events that followed were hazy. You spoke hesitantly,
"Oh—no, don't worry. I just have a bit of a headache, nothing major."
The woman with feathered bangs, her red eyes sharp and alert, interjected, holding up a blue folder. "It's more than just a headache. Your medical records show you've been prescribed opioids."
"Opioids?" you repeated, seemingly confused.
"Yes, specifically methadone. It's known for side effects like headaches, nausea, and vomiting," she explained. "Why were you taking them?"
Her words sank in, sending a shiver down your spine. You had never taken opioids before. Veneer, his concern evident, chimed in,
"Y/N, you know what these drugs can do, especially with your epilepsy. They can trigger seizures!"
His protective stare was intense, and for the first time, you saw him genuinely angry. He placed your handbag on the bed, unzipped it, and pulled out a bottle labeled "Opioids." Your eyes widened in disbelief. You were sure you'd never seen them before; you only took your usual medication.
"Ven, I swear I never took those. It was just the usual medicine I've been using," you insisted, your voice trembling slightly.
Veneer's eyes softened slightly, but he still looked troubled. He appeared lost in thought, and you could see the load of distress etched across his face. As you tried to recall the events of the previous night, the memory of Zander surfaced. You remembered seeing him after leaving the club, and his presence felt increasingly suspect given what Kai and Hunter had told you. Veneer eventually spoke up with a possible theory,
