ོ༘₊⁺🍃₊⁺⋆.˚The first thing Jungwon does when he gets back to his apartment is flop face first on the ugly green couch in front of the TV and let out a loud groan.
Sunoo has been his roommate for the past two years due to his disaster of a living situation freshman year and determination to not experience a repeat. Jungwon mostly just couldn’t say no to the bougie apartment and Sunoo’s promise to cover the rent—well, rent isn’t the right word. Sunoo’s parents actually bought the apartment entirely.
Said roommate, who’s too busy giggling at his phone like an idiot, pays him no mind. Jungwon lets out an even louder groan to get Sunoo’s attention.
“You know, if you want me to ask you what’s up, you could just, like, tell me,” Sunoo says, not even bothering to look up. Jungwon gives him the nastiest glare he can muster from his awkward sprawled position half on the couch and half on the floor.
“Well, maybe if you stopped texting Riki for more than two seconds to be a good friend and inquire about my wellbeing, I wouldn’t have to,” Jungwon spits back.
Sunoo rolls his eyes. “What happened? Was that one regular creepy to you again? Or did the old hag tell you off for your creampuffs like she did last time?”
Jungwon groans again. “Worse. So much worse.”
Sunoo shrugs, finally putting his phone down. It vibrates with notifications, casting a faint glow against the fabric of the couch. “I’m not a mind reader. Just tell me.”
For dramatic effect, Jungwon rolls himself over and flops on the floor, splaying himself out like a dead fish. “I didn’t get the manager position.”
Sunoo winces. “Oh, I’m sorry. That sucks. You’ve been working at that place forever.”
Jungwon presses his hands to his face. “I fucking know. And you know what’s worse? Guess who got it instead of me.”
“One of your weird coworkers?” Sunoo tries.
Jungwon shakes his head. “Fuck no. Even that would be better. It was Park Jay who got it. Park. Fucking. Jay.”
Sunoo’s mouth drops open at Jungwon’s words. “No fucking way. He doesn’t even work there.”
“The hag who runs the place said she knows his dad or something. Wouldn’t shut up about what a wonderful man he was. Made me wanna vomit.”
Sunoo scoffs. “Nepo baby connections,” he says solemnly. “No matter how good you are, there’s always a fucking nepo baby who’s gonna beat you out.” Jungwon doesn’t know why Sunoo’s talking, seeing as his parents own a popular magazine and he has a nice job lined up for him there once he graduates, but he appreciates the sentiment.
“I just don’t get it,” Jungwon bemoans. “Why my bakery out of all places? And why’s he getting a job now, anyways? We all know he’s gonna go work at his dad’s company once he graduates and it’s not like he needs the money.
Sunoo shrugs. “Maybe he wanted to buff up his resume a little.”
Jungwon levels Sunoo with a look. “You really think ‘bakery manager’ would make his LinkedIn look more impressive? Please.”
“Hey, you never know. Businesses are all about diversity these days.” At Jungwon’s silence, Sunoo decides to continue talking. “Why do you still hate him so much anyway?” He stares wistfully at the ceiling. “He’s so hot.”
Jungwon scowls. “You know why. He’s literally a first class frat boy douchebag. And I’m so tired of him being able to get away with everything because he has, like, pretty privilege or whatever. Hot assholes are still assholes.”
Sunoo pointedly ignores his last sentence. “Oh, c’mon. That whole thing happened in freshman year. That was literally two years ago. No one cares anymore. I mean, sure, it was embarrassing, but we all do embarrassing things once in a while.”
“Sunoo,” Jungwon moans. “You don’t get it. He’s held it over me since then. Remember my Physics lecture last year? He sat next to me and it was hell on earth. Traumatizing, seriously.”
Sunoo shrugs and pats his shoulder. It feels a touch condescending. “Well, you’re in for a great time, then. When does he start?”
Jungwon huffs. “Next week.”
Sunoo gives him a sympathetic grimace. “Lots of time to emotionally prepare, I guess.”
Jungwon throws his head back and groans. He thinks he’ll stay on the floor for a while.
