As you reached home, you collapsed onto your bed, exhaustion seeping into your bones. Both physically and mentally drained, you placed a warm hand on your stomach, trying to connect with the life growing inside you.
"Baby?" you whispered softly, your voice trembling as you tried to feel some connection.
"I'm sorry for today," you apologized, feeling an unexpected surge of maternal love. Tears welled up in your eyes as you continued, "Satoru—your dad—I just can't reach him. And it's tearing me apart."
Just then, your phone buzzed with a new message. You checked it, hoping it was Satoru.
SUGURU: Please don't stress. It's not good for the baby.
His words felt like a warm hug in the middle of a storm. Despite the distance between you and Satoru, Suguru's concern offered a small comfort.
YOU: Yes.
You typed a quick reply before exhaustion finally claimed you, and you drifted off to sleep.
--
Another week passed, and there was still no sign of Satoru. You were already 6 weeks pregnant. The hope you had once clung to was now dwindling. You were caught in a dilemma—each passing day making it harder to decide what to do about the life growing inside you.
--
One morning, you scheduled an ultrasound appointment. Nobara wasn't available to accompany you, so you went alone, pinning a hospital visit as your reason for taking a day off. As you walked into the hospital, you were surprised to see Suguru at the entrance.
"Oh, hi, Ms. [Your Name]!" Suguru greeted you, his eyes lighting up with recognition.
"Hello, Mr. Geto," you replied, trying to muster a polite smile.
"Everything okay?" he asked, noting the reason for your visit.
"Just a routine ultrasound," you answered, brushing off any concern.
"Let me walk you there," he offered, moving to your side.
"It's fine, I can manage," you replied with an apologetic smile.
"Don't be silly," Suguru insisted, and you fell into step beside him.
As you walked, you couldn't help but ask, "I've seen you here quite often. What brings you to the hospital so much?"
"My friend, Kento Nanami, is the head surgeon here. I visit him when I can," Suguru explained as you reached the ward.
The nurse took you in for the ultrasound. During the process, she showed you the images on the screen—blurry, almost unrecognizable shapes that still held a special significance to you.
"Ms. [Your Name], your baby is growing well. Soon, they'll start to resemble a little human," she said with a smile, and you couldn't help but smile back, feeling a growing emotional bond with the tiny life inside you.
"Are you still considering the abortion?" she asked gently, concern evident in her voice.
Her words hit you like a ton of bricks, making you feel vulnerable and conflicted. You hadn't made a decision yet—how could you, without Satoru's input? This baby was as much his as it was yours, and you couldn't bear the thought of making such a life-altering choice without him. But deep down, you feared that if he wanted you to terminate the pregnancy, it would shatter the fragile bond you were starting to form with your baby.
"I... I don't know," you stuttered, feeling lost.
"It's okay," she reassured you with a kind smile.
--
As you and Suguru walked out of the ward, you suddenly froze. There, standing in front of you, was Satoru. Your heart skipped a beat, and for a moment, you wondered if you were imagining things.
"[Your Name]!" he called out, rushing toward you. He wrapped you in a tight embrace, holding you as if he would never let go. But you were too stunned to react.
"I'm so sorry, love. I'm so sorry. I missed you so much," Satoru murmured, his voice filled with regret.
Before you could process the situation, Suguru walked up, holding the ultrasound images.
"[Your Name], here are the ultrasound pictures," he said, handing them to you. He, too, seemed taken aback by Satoru's sudden appearance.
Satoru's eyes narrowed as he turned to Suguru. "What the hell are you doing here?"
Suguru met his gaze without flinching. "I'm doing what you should have been doing," he replied, his tone sharp as he handed you the pictures.
"Ultrasound? What for?" Satoru asked, confusion clouding his features as he moved closer to you.
"Why do you think we do ultrasounds, genius?" Suguru shot back, a smirk playing on his lips.
"What do you mean?" Satoru's voice rose with frustration, his confusion turning to anger.
"I'm just taking care of her. You can go back to your little vacation, or shall I say, long vactaion," Suguru said, his words laced with sarcasm as he took your hand and started to walk away. But Satoru grabbed your other hand, stopping you in your tracks.
"You dare touch her again," Satoru growled, yanking you back towards him. The sudden movement caused you pain, and you couldn't help but let out a small cry.
"I'm sorry," Satoru quickly apologized, his eyes filled with concern. But Suguru wasn't having it.
"You idiot, you shouldn't be treating her like this in her condition," Suguru snapped, gently caressing your arm. Satoru's patience snapped.
Without warning, Satoru's fist collided with Suguru's face. "I told you, she's mine."
Suguru retaliated with a punch of his own. "Then where were you when she needed you the most?" he shouted, his voice echoing in the corridor. The two men grabbed each other by the collar, glaring furiously.
"Leave him, Satoru!" you cried, trying to pull them apart, tears streaming down your cheeks. "I'm pregnant, Satoru—pregnant!"
Your confession hung in the air, and Satoru froze, the anger draining from his face as he looked at you, stunned.
