"Are you for real?" Satoru's words tumbled out, his voice laced with confusion as he stared at you.
"Yes, I am. It's your baby! Your blood, your DNA!" you cried, tears streaming down your face. The weight of the situation was overwhelming.
"All these days, I've been trying to tell you, but you're so busy you can't even check your phone, for God's sake, Satoru! I've been bearing this alone! It's so hard now. Mr. Geto is the one helping me out, and yet you're throwing punches at him when I should be the one raging at you, you dickhead!" you shouted, the frustration boiling over. Without waiting for a response, you turned and started to run, with Suguru close behind.
"Listen, [Your Name]!" Satoru called after you, chasing you out of the hospital. He grabbed your hand, genuine emotion filling his eyes. "I was busy with something, and I swear I couldn't contact you. I'm really sorry, but it wasn't in my control," he confessed, desperation clear in his voice.
"Please forgive me, for the sake of our baby!" He dropped to his knees, holding your hands tightly, pleading.
You took a deep breath, trying to calm your raging heart. "Okay, I will forgive you," you said slowly, watching as relief washed over his face and he stood up.
"But you have to tell me why you weren't here," you demanded, your voice steady. Satoru's eyes widened in surprise.
"I can't, [Your Name]! If I could, I would have already told you," he explained, his voice tinged with regret.
"Why can't you tell me? Were you seeing other women?" you asked, your voice laced with suspicion and hurt.
"Come on! You know I love you," he replied, frustration creeping into his tone.
"Then tell me why you weren't here," you shot back, determined to know what was so secretive that he couldn't share it with you.
"I can't, I'm sorry," he repeated, his voice breaking as he looked down.
"Then it's not worth my forgiveness. You can go back because I've decided I'll raise this baby as mine and mine alone," you declared, your anger fueling your words as you turned to leave.
"No, please! It's mine too, and we will raise it together," he insisted, grabbing your hand again. But you pulled away from his grip, your heart heavy with the decision you were making, and walked away with Suguru, leaving Satoru behind.
It was painful—unbearably so—to leave the man you loved, the father of your child, standing there. But in your mind, it was the only option left.
--
That night, you were at home when the doorbell rang. Expecting it to be Nobara, you opened the door, only to find Satoru standing there.
"You," you said, stunned for a moment before the anger returned.
"Baby, I'm so sorry," he said, stepping inside without waiting for an invitation and closing the door behind him.
"No, you're not. Or else you would have told me your reason for being absent," you retorted, your resolve hardening.
"Why don't you understand? I can't!" Satoru shouted in frustration, accidentally knocking over a pot, the loud crash making you jump. The sudden burst of anger from him, coupled with your own turbulent emotions, made you start crying uncontrollably. Pregnancy really did make you more emotional than ever.
"I'm sorry," Satoru said quickly, rushing to your side and sitting you down on the couch. His expression softened, and he looked genuinely regretful. After a moment, he sighed deeply. "Okay, I'll tell you."
You looked up at him, wiping your tears away, a lump forming in your throat. "Yes?" you whispered, anticipation and anxiety swirling inside you.
"But you have to trust me, alright?" he said, and you nodded, though uncertainty gnawed at you.
He hesitated for a moment, struggling to find the right words. "So, well, I'm... I'm a sorcerer," he finally blurted out, his voice shaky. "I hunt and exorcise spirits. My family has been doing this for generations. Whenever I told you I was leaving for personal business, it was because I had to deal with dangerous spirits. This time, it was a particularly tough one, which is why I couldn't contact you. I'm sorry."
You stared at him, utterly stunned by his revelation. "What?" you managed to say, your mind struggling to process his words.
"See? This is why I didn't want to tell you. I knew you wouldn't believe me," Satoru said, looking away, tension and sadness evident in his posture.
But as you looked at him, you realized that despite the absurdity of what he was saying, there was a deep sincerity in his eyes. "You could tell me the sun is blue instead of yellow, and I'd still believe you, Satoru," you finally said, your voice softening as you reached out to him. Relief washed over his face.
"Thank you so much. I love you, [Your Name]," he whispered, and you pulled him into a kiss—a kiss filled with passion, longing, and love. It was a kiss that conveyed everything words couldn't express: how much you missed him, how much you still cared, and how, despite everything, you were willing to face whatever came next together.
