October ??, 2023

Giordano-Ricci Hotel, Milan

The sounds of frantic phrases meshed with cursed words as DJ and Adam were preparing to leave Milan behind. Adam was sweating bullets, checking his phone every 3 seconds. DJ was packing his bags, completely out of it.

The events that had transpired over the trip seemed like a weird blur. It didn't seem real yet the reality stared DJ in the face - He was being hunted down and the only option was to head back home.

"Our Uber will arrive in 10 minutes." Adam said. "We'll drive to Turin, head to the airport and then be on our way to London...DJ, are you listenin' to me?"

DJ said nothing, staring at a pile of clothes.

"DJ!"

"Yeah, yeah, I hear you bruv."

"Pay attention man! When the Uber gets here there will be no delay. We pack all our stuff and get as far away from this city as possible."

Adam paced around with his hands on his hand.

"This is fucking ridiculous..." he muttered to himself. "How the fuck did we end up in this mess?"

He turned to DJ as if wanting some support but he realised that it was no use. DJ was dead. Motionless. His eyes were glossed over as he stared out of the window - Peering down at the baroque buildings. Those terracotta roofs, those stone houses, they were meant to be the foundation for his success. He was so close to being back on top again, to having his dream life, but now everything had been ripped away. And for what reason? DJ wasn't even sure.

A small part of him wanted to debate Adam for wanting to leave

He thought that this world was harmless, fanciful, but in reality it was just as sick and twisted as the environment he grew up in. Maybe even worse. At least where he grew up, the bad things didn't try and hide from you. But here, he had realised that the bad things were coated in glamour to fool you. Like the forbidden fruit.

"Our taxi is here!" Adam said. "Let's go!"

DJ snapped out of his stupor, grabbed his bags and put on his jacket. He heard Adam unlock the door with his key card, and the cars racing outside, but the sounds were overshadowed by the ringing in his ear. It came out of nowhere and disrupted his thinking - Leaving him at the mercy of his other senses. Adam continued to walk out of the room but it was like he was moving in slow motion. He was blurry too. All of DJ's surroundings were blurry and blended together like a surreal painting. Blinking his eyes, he tried to shake off the tiredness in them...But there was no tiredness to shake. Rather, it was a force that was outside of his control. A vignette of darkness ate up his vision, and as it went about encapsulating it, DJ felt the floor smack his face.
