Leonardo Da Vinci National Science and Technology Museum
Illuminated by the sun, the Da Vinci museum stood in grandeur. With its cream walls, bright orange terracotta roofs and lush green garden, it was no wonder Franklin had chosen this site for their next show.
Jordan stepped out of the Uber and Berenice pulled her aside to the curb.
"You're going to see a lot of important people there," she said. "A lot of intimidating people. So, um, try your best to just be yourself. Don't be nervous. You've got this!"
Jordan smiled. The advice was simply a mask.
Paint a scene
Yes.
They were merely actors after all.
The harsh gravel ground was replaced with smooth marble floors. Inside was an ambient cream colour, ceilings with arches running along. A few staff in navy suits directed them to the outdoor quarters and Jordan realised why her agent gave her the 'pep talk'. Inside the green square were various models and staff working with Franklin. Some were makeup artists, others were stylists, photographers. Models from various backgrounds congregated, including a familiar face for Jordan.
Nicole Cartier was a slender woman with yellowish skin and freckles.
Jordan made her way towards her. Berenice closely tailing.
Her wide jaw and high cheekbones were further emphasised by the sun and her dirty blonde ponytail.
"Hi, is your name Nicole?"
Nicole squinted. The woman in front of her looked so familiar, yet she was undeniably different.
"Uh huh, can I help you?" Nicole asked.
"I was wondering if I could talk to you...in private."
Berenice stepped in.
"Delphine we-"
"It's alright Berenice, it won't be long."
Nicole squinted at her but not because the sun was in her eyes.
"Mmkay." she said.
She's probably just a fan.
Nicole followed Delphine, arms crossed, as they both headed into the shade of the arches. She examined this peculiar woman from an inch above. Their eyes were both narrow and orange. Their noses were both hooked, but...They were both undeniably...Different. Whilst Delphine lips were full, her's were thin. And whilst she had a square face Delphine's was long and oval.
"You're probably wondering why I called you..." Delphine began.
Yes, hurry up!
"And the reason is because I recently found out...I found out that I'm your half-sister. I'm Delphine Dembele. Jean Cartier was my dad."
"..."
Nicole looked at Delphine with bulging eyes and covered her mouth. The breaths she took were shaky and rattled their way through the bones in her body - This wasn't the response Jordan was expecting. Yet again, she didn't have much expectations to begin with.
"Wait a minute. Did you not know this already?" Delphine asked.
Now she had her hands on her mouth.
"I'm so, so, so, so sorry." she apologised. "I thought...No, what was I thinking? There's no way I could have known that he told you. I guess...I guess I was so anxious to tell you and see you in person."
