Chapter 17 ~ promise me ~

Raz was standing by his window looking out into the yard when Oon and Ngusoi came in and he turned slowly to look at his beta's face.

"sit down, both of you"

"with all due respect Raz, you're not my alpha" Ngusoi said.

"maybe not but you're in my home so please show a little courtesy" Raz replied

Ngusoi and Oon sat down on the chairs in front of Raz's desk and Raz was silent for a few moments while he chose his words carefully.

"we've been friends for a long time haven't we Oon?"

"yes boss" Oon replied.

"best friends even" Raz added.

"so what are you trying to say" Oon said.

"I feel like you still don't trust me even after all these years" Raz said.

"of course I trust you"

"then why won't you tell me what's going on and don't insult my intelligence by telling me that those tests were for your mother" Raz said.

Oon looked at Raz's face then down at the floor and Raz looked at Ngusoi

"you know something don't you Ngusoi?" Raz said.

"Oon is my mate Raz" Ngusoi replied as if that explained everything.

"so in other words you're not going to fill me in" Raz said.

"it's not that I don't want to but first and foremost my loyalty is to my mate" Ngusoi said.

"and that is very admirable but it's not helping his cause right now and I have to tell you I don't like that my beta is keeping secrets from me" Raz said.

"it's personal Raz, it doesn't concern the pack" Oon said.

"it's not personal if it's making you sick, if you're not functioning normally ... you're my beta dammit and I need to know what's going on?" Raz was angry.

"if I told you the truth you wouldn't want me as your beta anyway so wha ..."

"the way you are behaving right now makes me not want you as my beta so either way you have nothing to lose" Raz called his bluff.

Oon was silent for a few minutes while he stared at his feet considering his options then he looked up and spoke,

"if I tell you, you have to promise me you won't kick my mother out of the pack" Oon said.

"why the fuck would I kick your mother out?"

"please Raz, promise me" Oon said.

"I promise now tell me what the fuck is going on" Raz demanded.

Raz watched as Oon struggled with his emotions, he watched as Ngusoi reached over and took his hand,

"tell him baby" Ngusoi whispered and squeezed his hand gently.

"I ... " Oon began taking deep breaths

"take your time baby" Ngusoi said.

"I'm pregnant" Oon said and looked at the floor and Raz could see his tears dripping onto the rug beneath his feet.

"go on ... how can you be pregnant Oon?" Raz said.

"I was born with ... both" Oon was almost whispering and it was only because of Raz's superior hearing that he heard.

Raz went around to the front of his desk and squatted down before Oon then took his hands,

"the first thing I'll say to both of you is congratulations, I'm assuming that you're happy about it?" Raz said looking at them both.
