Phone call to home
=

Monday, 5th of August

"Yeah mom, yes, love you too, mhm.. say hi to Estelle for me. Bye!"

I hung up the phone. It was nice to talk to mom again, and we chatted for waaaaay too long. I opted out of telling her about my unfortunate trip to the bank this morning.
My next plan of action was calling camp in hope I could get replacement glasses sent to me asap, because I could not work this job with every single word floating off the walls.

I called Camp half blood and waited as the phone rang.

....

....
...-"hello? Delphi strawberry service, how many I assist you?"

"Hey! This is Percy Jackson." I said, and waited a beat.

"Percy Jackson? Hey.. Percy's.." the voice trailed off as the phone was passed to someone.

"SEAWEED BRAIN YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW UPSET IVE BEEN THAT YOU DIDN'T SAY GOODBYE!"
My ear drums about burst.

"Wise girl, chill.."

"You didn't even IM me!" She continued.

"I forgot to pack drachmas.." I explained gently. "I'm sorry."

Annabeth sighed. "Alright.. but I've missed you, we all have."

I nodded, even though I knew she couldn't see. "I have a phone now.. so call me whenever, okay?"

"Okay. I'm glad you reached out. I was told you moved to Gotham? How is it?"

"It's been nice so far, I work in a book store, and I live in an apartment above it.." I sat on my bed holding my phone to my ear, enjoying the casual conversation.

"A book store? I never would've imagined you would be interested in books, seaweed brain." Annabeth laughed on the other end.

"Yeah well... I got those glasses, you know?"

Annabeth hummed. "Ah, so you're the reason those exist now, huh? They're honestly amazing."

"Yeah. And uh.. so I need a new pair. Mine got smashed.." I said sheepishly.

"Clumsy Percy." Annabeth chuckled. "I'll have some shipped over, 'Kay?"

"Thanks Annabeth. You're the best. Hey, I'm not sure how safe it is for me to be on the phone here yet but I'm pretty confident most monsters won't be able to track me, but just in case I gotta keep it short, okay?"

Annabeth hummed in agreement.
"That layer thing gothams got going on?" She asked for clarification.

"Yeah. If it works out.. I'd like to start something here to help adult demigods live comfortably." I explained softly.  "This might be a really good opportunity for us." I continued.

"That's really great, Percy. I think we all kinda need that. Like new Rome is for Roman's." Annabeth said with a soft voice, I could tell she was happy for me.

"Alright. Gotta go, Wise girl. Love ya, take care all right?"

"Love you too seaweed brain." Annabeth laughed.

We hung up and I fell back on my bed with a sigh. I had explained my unfortunate glasses situation with May, and she understandably was upset for me.
I still finished the work day, but I wasn't much help in stocking.
We weren't too busy anyways, aside from the few kids who came in to buy the obviously amazing cookies we now sold, like, duh.

Nothing else really happened, and my life seemed to be uneventful now that I was living here, to which in some degree I appreciated, but in another I was restless.
I haven't trained properly in a month, and that bothered me. Perhaps when I get my card in I'll purchase a training dummy or something to put here in my apartment.

But aside from that, the silence from monsters, although expected here, left me on edge.
Especially after my two phone calls.
What if that was all it took here? A phone call and bam! Monsters. Like a false sense of security.

I laid gazing at my glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling, waiting for what seemed like forever, but nothing happened.
I sighed, relaxing a little.
I'm just paranoid, I know that.

I hauled myself up into a sitting position, and stretched. The night was young! And I had to make some dinner that thankfully wouldn't be ramen.

Getting up, I moved into my kitchen and took a look in my refrigerator.
Mac n cheese seemed the easiest, although that wasn't far from what I was eating previously.
I had purchased ground beef, so I could cook up some macaroni, maybe peas and some tasty cheese. That sounded good.

I was chilling in my kitchen eating my very tasty pasta, when suddenly, I heard a loud noise outside, almost like a boom.
I shot up, pushing my chair back and ran to the window catching the end of a very large blast a couple blocks away, a huge smoke cloud rising into the night air with flames rising all around.
My mouth fell open in shock.
"What on mount Olympus is happening?!" I said to myself as I watched this massive explosion turn into a huge fire.

I could see something was happening over there but I wasn't sure what.
I wasn't planning on getting myself involved in any dangerous situations and activities unless it involves the bookstore, but this felt concerning..
and I had the power of water to take out that massive fire...

I groaned and pulled myself away from the window, looking longingly at my plate of pasta and then flying down the stairs to head out of the building.

Loud booms echoed down the street as I opened the door from the shop.
The streets were oddly quiet as I ran towards the blaze, a couple blocks out.

I took a turn before coming face to face with some random guy in a costume. "Woah-" I said, stopping before I hit him.

"Get out of here, this is a dangerous place!" The man dressed in black said to me.

I raised an eyebrow. Is this.. Batman?
"Sorry, uh.." I backed off, watching the guy run off towards some crazy guy setting everything on fire.

I needed to find another way to help, I can't risk getting caught by.. I'm pretty sure that's Batman.

I need to be careful about this.

Hi!

I'm super conflicted with writing first person opposed to third, but I've already gone to far to change now.. 🥲
