Happy birthday Percy!
=

Sunday, 18th of August

"Happy birthday to you.. happy birthday to you.. happy birthday dear Percyyyyy..."
Liz and May took a beep breath before continuing,
"Happy birthday to youuu.."

"Until you're 32.." Liz added with a grin.

"Thanks guys." I smiled. "You didn't have to."

"Yes, we did! You're 20 now! What an Achievement." Liz joked.

You have no idea. I thought to myself.
It was honestly crazy how I was expected to die first at 16, and then not even expected to live into my adulthood at all.

"Well thanks anyways." I looked down at my blue cake, and blew out the candles.

"What'd you wish?" Liz asked impatiently, and May shushed her.
"Liz, don't forget, if you tell a wish it won't come true."

I wouldn't tell them anyways. It was a simple wish, something I've always wanted.

Something I hope I'll get someday.

"Here Percy, we got you something!"

I took the wrapped gift from Liz. "Seriously? You guys.."

I opened it carefully, seeing a blanket inside, it was sea green and blue squared patterns. "A quilt?" I asked in amazement.

"Yup! May and I made it." Liz said proudly.

May watched on with a smile.

"May, Liz, thank you, this is the most wonderful gift I've been given in a while." I said softly, getting up to hug each of them for a good long second.

"You're welcome dear." May replied.

"Now let's eat some cake." Liz exclaimed.

"Alright, let's."

"Happy birthday to you.."

"Thank you mom and Paul. I wish I were with you all right now." I said softly into the phone.

"We miss you a lot, Percy. I hope you can visit us sometime soon. Estelle has been growing so quickly.." mom said hopefully.

"I'll see what I can do, mom. But probably not for a few months. I'll try thanksgiving?" I asked, feeling guilty for being so far away and unable to visit.

"Alright. We will look forward to seeing you then. Love you Percy!"

"Love you too mom, bye."

"Your mom sounds lovely." May said with a smile. Liz had gone home, and May stayed with me to watch a little movie as an extra birthday activity, and my mom had called to wish me a happy birthday, with Paul, of course.

"She's really nice. I'm sure you two would be great friends."

"Oh? Well it's too bad I haven't met her yet. Invite her down sometime.." May said thoughtfully.

"I would but she's got a young child. It's too dangerous for her right now." I said sadly.

"Oh, yes I agree. Well that's too bad. You know Percy, I'm happy if you want to take a few days off to visit." May said insistently.

"Oh I know. And I will, just not right now. I'm hoping for Thanksgiving."

May nodded. "I see. That's alright, dear. We will figure it all out when the time comes."

We turn back to the movie and let it play, enjoying the evening before it ended.

"Thanks for a good birthday, May. I really appreciate it." I said softly, cuddling into my new quilt.

"Of course, dear. You're worth every penny, don't forget."

"Okay, May. Thanks."
