Jason's POV
=

Saturday, 7th of September

"What do you mean you don't know what happened?" I exclaimed into the phone.

"Look Jason, whatever you saw wasn't the way I saw it! From the recording it looks like they were trying to mug her with their pet cat.."

I shook my head, even though I knew Bruce wouldn't see it.
"I know what I saw, Bruce. They weren't human!"

"Jason calm down. Maybe you need a break. You've been patrolling every night without stopping and-"

"No. You're not going to use this as an excuse to get me off the street because you don't like my methods." I took a deep breath to calm down, then continuing in a more serious voice.

"Bruce, I wouldn't come to you with this if it wasn't serious. There was a lion.. with like a scorpions tail.. and she was fighting it.."

Bruce sighed. "Jason.. how about you take two days off. Go.. sit at that bookshop you've been going to."

My eyebrows raised. "What? You've been keeping tabs on me?"

"I keep tabs on all my kids." He replied simply.

"I'm not a kid. And fine, I'll keep an eye on her for a few days and not go back out.. happy?" I relented.

"Good. Glad to hear. Also.. we're having dinner tonight-"

"I'm not coming. I'll be busy.." I cut him off. I didn't feel like socializing today.

"No, you're not." Bruce countered.

"I'm having alone time."

"You're not five. Come to dinner."

Bruce hung up on me and i rolled my eyes in defiance.

Sure I didn't have anything else to do today, seeing as I was now banned from all Red Hood activities because I am "seeing things" ...idiots.

I still didn't want to entertain my insanely crazy family any more than I had to.

Can't I just live peacefully alone with a book?

I fished out my keys as I walked to my bike. It was red, sleek and clean, just how any bike should be.

Normally I'd wear my red hood helmet, but when it came to bikes, you gotta wear the classic.

Of course it was red. You think I'd wear any other color?

Red pairs well with leather. And I loved my leather Jacket. All together I was probably the coolest vigilante there was. Although Dick probably thinks he's the coolest himself.

His ego probably rivals mine.

after mounting my bike, it roared to life and I was off, speeding down the streets of Gotham, swerving and filtering through traffic.

There honestly wasn't any feeling better than this. Wind in my hair, speed in the palms of my hands, the feeling of absolute control.

I zoomed towards the docks where I had seen Percy throw herself into the water.

I needed more information on her. I had to know what happened, and if I was really crazy like Bruce thought.

I know what I saw.

I grit my teeth as I recall Bruce dismissing my concerns.

She was incredible.

A girl who fought with a sword.. she was amazing.

Although the moment she threw herself into the water..

"No!" I reached out but I was too far away.

In less than 30 seconds I was down at the docks ditching clothes and jumping in after her.

I had brought her back to the shop that night. Relieved to find out she actually lived above it.

I felt guilty leaving her there with those bruises and scratches and in wet clothes.

Yeah, I put her in clean pajamas. Sue me. She'd catch a cold if I didn't.

This morning I walked in the shop to make sure she was okay. And it seemed she was pretending nothing had happened.

I still kept an eye on her.

Mays books used to be a dimly lit, poorly staffed store with a badly organized collection of books when I first went.

May was the nicest old woman I'd ever met in my life. And I knew I'd go back just for her.

The next time I went, I met the sweetest young woman, who seemed to have turned the store upside down.

She was shy, pretty and relatable.
And now, I knew she also was a strong and skilled too.

At least I think. If it was true that I hadn't imagined it all.

I parked my bike on the board walk, walking down the docks and to the spot where I had saw Percy fight the strange animal.

There wasn't a speck of dust to prove anything had happened here.

I scoffed at the wood, like it was the problem.

I leaned against the rails watching the dirty river flow by, wrinkling my nose at the pungent sent.

Why would she willingly jump in this dump..

Why did I willingly jump in after her?

At the very least I should have hesitated.

I need a new hobby.

I'm going to be bored these next few days, and I severely doubt reading will sate my boredom.

My phone pinged in my hand, and I raised it up to see the notification.

Bruce
Come to dinner.

Jason
Dinner is in four hours give me a break.

Bruce
Just a helpful reminder.

I scoffed and shut my phone off.

Family time. I thought sourly.

I pushed off the rail and walked back to my bike, putting on my helmet and mounting it, the delightful purr humming under me as I start the engine and rev it.

Might as well get it over with.
