Since Draco had asked me to the ball, the guilt hiding it from my brother and friends was unbearable. To them, I was going by myself, happy with being in the company of them and not too bothered about going by myself. Seamus and Dean had already planned that they'd at least dance with me once so I wasn't stood on the side awkwardly and I knew Ron and Harry wouldn't be dancing loads, due to their awkwardness, so would be able to 'sit with them and not feel left out'. Yet I wasn't going to be left out, I was going with Draco, as friends. We both had made that very clear in the astronomy tower that night, that we were both going as friends and nothing more.
The last trip to Hogsmeade was this weekend, and Ginny and Hermione made it a mission that they had to buy their dresses today, both of them giddy at the fact the ball wasn't far off now.
"What do you think I should go for?" Hermione asks, looking at me and Ginny for advice. Hermione had grown up by herself with her muggle parents, no brothers or sisters to ask for help, advice or wind up, and I could see she relied on us, we were her second family. She spent summers, some of Christmas and Easter break with us and our family, she had grown part of the furniture, just like Harry. She was wearing her H sweater my mother had knitted her last year for Christmas.
"What about red? Show your true Gryffindor spirit and also match the Dumstrang colours?" Ginny said winking at Hermione, looking at the rack of dresses they had for sale.
"Hmm, don't you think that's obvious though?" I said, noticing Hermione wasn't happy with the thought of wearing red.
"What about something more girly Hermione? Maybe pink?" I say, holding up the most beautiful frilly dress, it was long and had a beautiful blush shade of pink. I could see her eyes light up when she saw it in my hands and rushed over to place it next to her body.
"Yes! That's the one, you'll look so hot!" Ginny says, dramatically fanning her face.
Mother had sent me over some money to buy Ginny's dress with her, as there wasn't a hand-me-down that was her size, it wasn't alot of money but it was something we could work with.
"Omg this is it!" She said squealing, pulling out a mint green dress with pink bodice, it was funky and definitely fit in with her personality. Luckily it was on sale so I could buy it for her.
"Okay girls, let's go get a drink i'm thirsty after all of this hard work!" I say chuckling grabbing both of their hands and making our way out of the shop and towards the Three broomsticks.

Two weeks had gone around in an instant, the snow had settled over Hogwarts and the christmas decorations were up in the common rooms and great hall. The great hall had been out of bounds all morning of Christmas eve, preparations for the yule ball in the evening taking priority.
Our dormitory was a mess. A mess that can only be made when four teenage girls are getting ready for the most important night of the year. Hermione had Parvati curling her hair, putting it in an up-do with five thousand bobby pins, Lavander was panicking that her dress was creased and I was about to throw up about the fact I was going with Draco Malfoy.
