With the entire SCP-Universe, it would be foolish to think that the United Nations wouldn't know of the existence of the anamolies. The GOC was founded after the Seventh Occult War/WWII and made up of one-hundred and eight powerful anomalous/occult organizations. The seventh Occult war was an anamolous war started by the No-No Germans due to the Germans wanting to use an anamolous ritual to gain power. This resulted in WW2.
The motives of the GOC is to kill all anamolies they come across. Regardless if they are harmeless or not the GOC searches and destroys all anamolous humanoinds, objects, and entities sometimes using other anamolies to destroy a hostile anamoly. This makes them a more controversial group, especially since they are known to exterminate entire communities in order to destroy often unthreatening anomalies such as the case of SCP-1261.
Due to their goal of protecting humanity and destroying all anamolies the Global Occult Coalition and the Serpants Hand are bitter enemies. As told before the Serpants Hand wishes to understand and assimilate sentient anamolies, and the GOC works to kill all anamolies, resulting in the two sides being bitter enemies.
The GOC main base is located in the central Alantic called Ganzir. In alternate universes such as the universe of the omnicide of humanity called SCP-5000, Ganzir is destroyed by the Foundation. However in the main universe it contiues to operate as the head military headquarters of the GOC.
