Charles' POV
Being in court isn't what I expected to be doing on a random Wednesday morning. I'm only here because Jennifer wants me to pay child support - for a child that's not even mine.
"All rise!" The bailiff yells and the whole courtroom respects the bailiff's order as the judge enters the room.
"He's one of the best judges." My lawyer whispers quietly in my ear as I look at the judge. Mid 30s, quite tall and a natural and calm composure.
"He looks way too fucking young to be a judge." I whisper in my lawyer's ear and he nods.
"Apprentice, but he's quite strict."
"You may sit down now." The judge says and the entire room complies.
Sitting down, I adjust my expensive blue suit, while Jennifer adjusts her... random red t-shirt? I thought that as a spy, you know that you need to be very well dressed in Court. Apparently, not for her.
Jennifer's child, since I'm not calling that thing mine whatsoever, is still unborn so they had to do an invasive procedure to know if the baby was really mine.
That was a very risky move, even if the baby isn't mine.
But, it's Jennifer, so what can you expect from her?
***
"So, your honor, after all this evidence, I think you can conclude that my client isn't the unborn child's father." My lawyer concludes, sitting down.
Jennifer's lawyer lifts up and I immediately know what she's going to say. The same three annoying words she's been repeating constantly today. "Objection, your honor!"
"Overruled. What even is your point for the objection?"
"Speculation."
"Speculation of what?"
"The defendant's lawyer speculated."
"Speculated what?"
"Ugh, withdrawn." She slams her pen on the table and sits down. I don't look at Jennifer but I know for a fact that she's looking at me with one of those looks.
And I'm pretty sure she's going to do some shit.
"I find the defendant not liable of paying child support to the unborn child." The judge bangs his gavel, gets up, and leaves the courtroom in one fell swoop.
I get up and I see Jennifer continuously looking at me with an eerie smile.
Shit.
