IMMEDIATELY, Steve grabs the wheelchair from the corner of the room, carefully lifting Max and placing her in it.

"How'd you guys avoid the demo-dogs?" Bianca questions, gathering her bookbag, walkie-talkie, and stake.

Robin keeps an eye on the monsters in question, peeking through the window on the door to make sure they weren't closeby.

"Guys, we should go now. The hallway's clear," she turns back. "They're going down the stairs."

"We have to take the elevator anyway," Lucas points at Max.

"Okay, on the count of three, you all make a run for it. Tim, Mr. Flores, be ready to swing."

"Got it," both lift their weapons, Tim shaking as Steve leads the group through the doorway.

Once he confirms that it's safe, he wheels Max out, waving the rest of the group over.

Quickly, they sprint towards the elevator, Steve frantically hitting the button when Gianna points to the blood-spattered sign on the metal doors.

"Out of order," she reads, frowning. "There's two more elevators on this floor."

"She's right," Sam looks up, spotting one past the atrium next to the receptionist's desk. "Right there, and on the other hallway."

"Okay, let's go," Tim begins to rush forward, but Steve grabs him by his jacket.

"Always double check your surroundings," Bianca scolds, peeking around the corner to see an empty waiting area. "We're good."

Steve, Robin, Erica, and Leo rush forward, quickly making it to the elevator, but as the rest attempt to follow, two demodogs come running around the corner, headed straight for them.

"Shit, shit," Sam shakes her head, grabbing her walkie and tossing it to Steve, who catches it effortlessly. "Just go, get Max to the van, we'll get to the other elevator and meet you."

"Sam-"

"Steve, go!" Sam asserts, swinging her crowbar at the creature now right in front of her, as the others, besides her parents, board the elevator. "Dad, you too."

"It's too dangerous, we'll be right behind you," Bianca assures, wrapping her arm protectively around her.

Leo begins to argue, but Gianna shakes her head, pointing at the door. He wrestles with leaving his entire family, but ultimately knows he's not equipped to fight these things and he might do more harm than good by staying.

"If you're not down in 2 minutes, we're coming back up," Steve asserts.

Sam nods, holding her pinky up as a way to say, "I love you," and he does the same, backing into the elevator with fearful eyes.
