𝐉𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐀 𝐒𝐀𝐓 on the couch, lost in the quiet hum of her apartment. the city outside her window was alive-cars honking, sirens wailing, voices drifting through the thin walls-but inside, everything felt still. it had been two months since everything went down with ethan. two months since kay had left. two months of silence, uncertainty, and a feeling she couldn't shake, like she was always being watched, like any moment things could go wrong again.
she had moved out of her old place, hoping a change of scenery would help. a new apartment, a new job at a small journalist label downtown, trying to move on. but no matter how much she tried to distance herself from the past, she couldn't escape the thoughts that kept her up at night.
ethan's voice, his anger, the fight that ended in his death. she saw his face in her dreams. every. single. night.
but it wasn't just that haunting her. it was kay too. even after everything, she missed him. the way he'd been there for her, the way he'd fought for her. no matter how hard she tried to push the feelings away, they always crept back in, stronger than ever.
then tonight, out of nowhere, kay had texted her.
"i'm back. i need to see you. tonight."
she didn't hesitate. she grabbed her jacket and slipped out of her apartment, walking through the chilly brooklyn streets toward her car. she was going to meet at their old spot-a run-down park a few blocks away where they used to meet when things got too crazy. it was quiet there, away from the traffic and the noise of the city. it was theirs.
when she arrived, she saw him leaning against the fence, just like before. his hood was up, hands in his pockets, but she knew it was him. her heart jumped the second she laid eyes on him.
"kay," she called out, her voice catching in her throat.
he looked up, and for a second, they just stared at each other. the streetlights cast a soft glow on his face, making him look older, more tired than she remembered. but his eyes-they hadn't changed. there was something in them, something she couldn't shake. something she'd been missing.
"you came," he said, stepping toward her.
"of course i came," she whispered, trying to keep her emotions in check.
he stopped in front of her, close enough that she could feel the warmth of his body in the cold night air. "i missed you, j."
her chest tightened, the words hitting her harder than she expected. she'd been waiting to hear them for so long, and now that she finally had, she didn't know what to say.
