Sana stood at the edge of the dark, foreboding forest, her heart pounding with a mixture of fear and anticipation. She knew she shouldn't be there, in the depths of the woods where shadows danced menacingly and whispered rumors of danger but she also knew it was only this place that could put her heart and mind at peace. The eerie silence was broken time and again only by the rustling of leaves and the distant howl of a lone wolf but there was nothing in sight. The howling was not the one she was looking for as she could smell it and it wasn't the lavender and cedarwood that she liked but a just earthy smell. Sana's heart thudded and she clutched onto Meeti's hand as she apprehended his appearance. Every nerve was on edge, every instinct screaming at her to flee from the unknown that lurked beyond the safety of the tree line. Yet still, she stood firm and resolute, braving the darkness in search of answers that only he could provide.
The crumbling of the dried leaves beneath someone hinted at a presence except Meeti and Sana in that forest. Sana looked at Meeti and so did Meeti as the sound reached them. Every strand of their body stood in anticipation. Their eyes set on the way of the voice.
"Could it be...", Meeti began but she was instantly shushed by Sana.
"We need to be quiet", she whispered as low as she can so as to not break the silence that enveloped them. Meeti nodded in understanding. Though she agreed to accompany with excitement after every reasoning, somehow, after being at the place for a few minutes, she realized that it wasn't the best idea. She was fearful of the coming and trembling with fear, that was slowly closing in on her. On the other hand, Sana stood with her breath held as she waited for him, for the need to feel the same fear creep in through her as it did back on the camping night. A terror she liked and disliked simultaneously. She wished to run her hands again through the fur that felt soft and long. She wished to see him close again, to the fire blazing in those amber eyes that were deep and recited stories of centuries.
Her thoughts scared her, as she realized what she was thinking. She wasn't here to feel the wolf close but just to see him and confirm if somehow he was the reason for the weird dreams she had been getting lately. She didn't want to associate herself with him and the thought from moments back terrified.
"Why did I think that way when I have my intentions clear?", she wondered. It seemed like a secondary voice residing in her that longed for that creature.
A mysterious and menacing dark figure emerged from the shadowy depths of the forest canopy, revealing a massive and vicious wolf that exuded a predatory aura. Meeti's breath caught in her throat as she tried to silence even the sound of her own respiration, ensuring the wolf remained unaware of their presence. Sana fixed her gaze on the intimidating creature, her expression a hint of disappointment. This wasn't the wolf they had come seeking. While it matched the size of the one she had encountered that fateful night, it lacked the same fearsome intensity and soothing calmness that had accompanied her initial meeting. The stirring in her gut failed to materialize, and the comforting scents of lavender, cedarwood, and amber that had once filled the air were conspicuously absent. The wolf before them had hazel eyes, its scent earthy and unassuming. None of its characteristics evoked the same emotions within her, amplifying her sense of letdown. With only an hour remaining before their return journey, the clock was ticking against them. She didn't want to leave without seeing or meeting him but the stars were not on her side tonight.
The wolf made his move around the area as if on inspection and soon a growl was heard as if warning them. Its eyes were on the tree they were behind but Sana maintained her composure. The same could not be said for Meeti as she noticed the eyes of the wolf which was now making its way to them. Another growl emitted which seemed a sign of the last warning of surrender, but Sana stood her ground.
