[ Morganton ]
The next morning, I woke up and saw familiar walls in a condominium. My head was aching badly, so I had to lay down and close my eyes again.
"Fuck alcohol," I frustratedly uttered to myself.
"Good morning," I heard a soft voice greeting me. It sounded Adeline’s, so I forcefully opened my eyes to see her.
She was already wearing her outfit as a professor. I was again starstruck; she looked so successful and beautiful.
"Good morning," I sighed heavily while massaging my head. "I'm sorry, you had to take me to your condominium. But why did you take me here?"
"I don't want to take you home while you look so wasted. Your parents might've scolded you," she answered while brushing her hair and looking in the mirror.
"They don't care," I sarcastically answered and forced myself to stand up, but failed and had to sit down on the bed.
"What do you mean they don't care? Are you going to skip classes again?" She asked, looking at me through the mirror. "You're so dumb to drink too much alcohol when you literally have classes the next day."
"Stop scolding me like you're my mother," I complained, my facial expression frustrated. "And I'm going to school; alcohol is not going to stop me from getting the highest scores again."
"You don't have to be always the highest, Morgan." She sighed, looking stressed because of my situation.
"I have to be; I need to be the highest." I successfully stood up. "Aish, finally."
"You're so... harsh with yourself." She looked at me with emotions expressed in her eyes. "...and to a lot of people. Please prioritise thinking about how worthy and important your and other people's feelings are."
I can't believe I just looked at her and didn't say anything. I am really messed up and toxic. My characteristics were very difficult to handle.
"Where's the bathroom?" I changed the topic.
"There." She pointed out. "You can borrow some of my clothes in one of those cabinets."
And I had no choice, so I did borrow some of her clothes and use the bathroom. It was just a plain shirt and black trousers. When I got out of the bathroom, she was still there, sitting down on the sofa and scrolling through her phone while waiting for me.
"Uhm..." I purposely coughed to get her attention, which totally worked.
"You're done?" She looked at me. She was wearing her glasses, which looked very new to me.
Damn, she's the real definition of beauty and brain.
"Yeah. You could've just driven away because I can call a friend to pick me up." I shut the bathroom door.
"I am here; why are you always looking for another person?"
"It's just..." I sighed. "We are going to school together?"
"Yes." She straightforwardly answered, locking eye contact with me again.
"I don't think that's a good idea."
"Why?"
"We might get rumours together, you know? The people around us are—"
"What would they possibly say about us?" She was testing me real hard.
"I'm a teacher's pet, or possibly we have a thing together?" I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Aren't you a teacher's pet?" She immediately asked, like she planned to ask me that question all along. "And besides, they probably saw you with lots of different girls already; it's not going to be so new for them."
