Redverse P.O.V.
Today was my goodbye and farewell party. I was moving to Australia as per the instructions of the chief specialists. Of course, Devaroux organized everything. The party was lit with my coworkers and friends. My mind kept looking at the door as if Essence would appear magically after one month of not speaking to each other. I wanted to speak to her so badly; I beat down my ego and dialled her number, but it went straight to voicemail. I was about to call her again when I saw her at the door. It was like I couldn't believe my eyes. Until she approached, and she looked beautiful, but something was different. When she got close, I realized the difference.
"You dyed your white hair strands black," I said almost like a whisper.
"You broke my heart," she replied quietly, looking anywhere but at my eyes.
"I am sorry," I replied sincerely.
"This is for you," she says, handing me the black rose with a tight smile. I take the rose from her.
"I got something for you, in private," I tell her.
"No, thank you," she says quietly.
"Please," I ask.
"I am sorry for the brutal things I did, especially to our child. I hope we both find our ways to happiness," she says, her voice shaking.
"I wasn't the father... of the woman's child," I tell her.
"It changes nothing between us. We are better off as strangers; let's just move on," she says.
"Turn around, please," I tell her. After a long sigh, she turns. I undo her hair as it falls across her shoulders. I redo it with the hairpin I bought her. As slowly as possible, and she calmly waits. When I am done, I kiss the top of her hair.
"It's not fair," she whispers low enough, but I hear her.
"It's not fair for me too, Cee," I whisper back. I turn her around, and tears are evident in her eyes.
"Can we at least still be friends?" I ask.
"I am sorry, but no, I can never be your friend," she says. I nod, understanding her perspective.
"Okay."
"It's a wrap."
"Yeah, it is."
"Goodbye, Redverse."
"Goodbye, Essence."
