KATERINA HAD BEEN living in New York City for two years, finally having gotten accustomed to living a normal life of a normal twenty-one year old girl instead of hiding away in a bedroom in her father's house. She'd been working on how to practice using her powers and keep them under control so she could better herself before returning to the Avengers. Although, she had gone to visit them a few times and met the new additions to the team, who she enjoyed and got along with. Her father was back in action and it was nice for Katerina to see him back in his element.
A man named Stephen Strange had been working with her on her powers, having been a sorcerer. Learning more about her powers proved to be very hard, but Stephen did learn that they were composed of electromagnetic radiation. He explained to her that the powers likely became so out of control for her mother, since she had never used them, and they literally killed her from the inside out. Stephen assured her that if she gradually learned to exercise them, it should reduce the risk of death. She also learned from Doctor Strange that her genetics and biology were almost completely human; just with some powers. He lived very close to Katerina's small apartment she got for herself—with the help of her father—and she got into a routine of drinking her coffee in the morning while on a walk that eventually led to where Stephen lived, the Sanctum Sanctorum.
On her walk on a particular day, she saw two men. And the one on the right, looked suspiciously familiar, she almost thought she was imagining it. She hadn't seen him in two years. She had no clue who he was with, but she knew she had to stop and say hello.
"Thor?"
His head snapped in her direction instantly, his face immediately flushing when he saw how she'd changed. She seemed much more confident and radiant than before. She was in a white tube-top and cream sweatpants with her classic converse on. He was in a dark green shirt with a black jacket over it and a gray jacket on top of that with jeans and sneakers on. Katerina also noticed his beard was longer and fuller. He was holding an umbrella pretty tightly and Katerina recognized that it must've been Mjölnir disguised. The man next to him had shoulder-length black hair and he was in an all black suit.
"Katerina!"
Katerina speed-walked across the rest of the street to him, hugging him instantly. She didn't really care about the guy next to him and she also didn't care that she had never hugged Thor before. She hadn't seen him in years and she was relieved to see he was still well. He didn't hesitate to hug her back.
"What are you doing here?" she asked when he pulled away from the hug after a few moments.
"Uh, looking for my father," he said as he looked to his left. "This is my brother, Loki. He said he left our father here but.." He motioned to the construction site.
Katerina just smiled and waved at Loki, but all she got was a weird look, so her smile faltered.
"I swear I left him right here."
