The days following their shared, intimate moment had been a blur for Ling Ling Kwong. She found herself constantly replaying the night in her mind-how she and Orm had given in to their desires, only for Orm to pull away, haunted by the realization that they were half-sisters. The weight of it pressed down on both of them, driving a wedge between them as they struggled to come to terms with what they had done.

But there was also a lingering unease that refused to settle in Ling Ling's heart. Something about the story of them being half-sisters didn't sit right with her. She knew her father had been a man of many secrets, but deep down, there were gaps in the narrative that she couldn't ignore.

Ling Ling stood at her father's old desk, shuffling through stacks of documents and files that had been collected from his personal archives. There had to be something -a clue, a detail, anything that could explain the mystery of her and Orm's true relationship. She wasn't ready to accept what they had been told without knowing for sure.

She had been at this for hours when the door creaked open. Orm stepped inside, her face unreadable, but there was a tension in her movements that Ling Ling recognized immediately.

"Are you still looking through those files?" Orm asked, her voice calm but strained. "It won't change the fact that we're-" She hesitated before continuing, "-half-sisters."

Ling Ling looked up, her eyes searching Orm's. "I can't let this go. Something feels off. I need to know the truth."

Orm's expression softened as she approached the desk. "Ling Ling, what if the truth is something we can't change? We've already... crossed a line."

Ling Ling shook her head. "No. I don't believe it's as simple as we've been told. My father was involved in a lot of dangerous things, but there were always layers to everything he did. I need to be certain."

Orm sighed, stepping closer to Ling Ling. "What are you hoping to find?"

Ling Ling pushed aside a stack of papers and revealed an old leather-bound journal. "My father kept this journal for years. I've been going through it, and there are entries about his affairs, his dealings, but I can't find anything that directly ties us together as siblings."

Orm frowned. "But we've already seen the DNA tests. How can you be so sure?"

Ling Ling's gaze was intense as she held up a piece of paper from the journal. "I found this. It's a note about a deal my father made with a powerful family in Thailand. It's vague, but it talks about a child being adopted under false pretenses."

Orm's heart skipped a beat. "You think... you think I'm that child?"

Ling Ling nodded slowly. "It's possible. There's no concrete proof here, but I've asked one of my contacts to investigate further. If this note means what I think it does, we might not be related by blood at all."

Orm's breath hitched as the weight of Ling Ling's words sank in. Could it be true? Could everything they had believed about their familial bond have been a mistake?

Just then, Ling Ling's phone buzzed on the desk. She picked it up, her eyes widening as she read the message from her contact. "He found something."

Without waiting another second, Ling Ling dialed the number and put the call on speaker. A familiar voice, gruff but dependable, answered.

"I got the information you asked for, Ling Ling. It's not what you think. Orm isn't your father's biological daughter."

Orm's breath caught in her throat as she looked at Ling Ling, her heart pounding.

Ling Ling's voice was steady, but there was an undeniable tension in the air. "What did you find?"

The voice on the other end continued, "Your father made a deal with a wealthy family in Thailand to adopt Orm. She was never his biological daughter. It was all part of a larger business arrangement. The DNA test you saw was falsified-intentionally, by Liu Wen. He wanted to destabilize your relationship with Orm."

A wave of emotions crashed over Orm as the realization hit her. "So... we're not sisters?"

"No," Ling Ling's contact confirmed. "You're not related by blood. Liu Wen set this whole thing up to get in your heads."

The call ended, leaving an echoing silence between Ling Ling and Orm. The weight of the revelation hung in the air, almost too surreal to comprehend.

"We're not... sisters," Orm whispered, her voice a mixture of relief and disbelief. She took a step back, her mind reeling as she tried to process the truth. All this time, she had believed that what they had done was wrong, a violation of something sacred-but now, that guilt dissolved, leaving behind only raw emotion.

Ling Ling's eyes were locked on Orm's, her pulse quickening. "It was all a lie," she said, her voice hoarse with emotion. "Everything they told us... it was meant to tear us apart."

Orm's chest rose and fell rapidly as the reality of their situation settled in. The feelings she had suppressed, the desire she had tried to bury under layers of guilt, surged to the surface. Ling Ling could see the storm of emotions playing out across Orm's face, the conflict between the love they shared and the lie they had believed for so long.

"I thought what we did was wrong," Orm whispered, her voice trembling. "I thought I was betraying something fundamental. But now... now it feels like all of that pain, all of that shame, was for nothing."

Ling Ling stepped forward, her hand reaching for Orm's. "It wasn't for nothing. We were manipulated, Orm. But now we know the truth."

Orm's eyes flickered with a mix of anger and relief, her body trembling as she stood before Ling Ling. "I can't believe I let them control me like that. I can't believe I let them make me feel ashamed of what we have."

Ling Ling cupped Orm's face in her hands, her touch gentle but firm. "You don't have to feel that way anymore. You don't have to carry that weight. We're free from all of it now."

Orm's breath hitched, her eyes filling with unshed tears as the emotional dam finally broke. "I was so afraid, Ling Ling. Afraid that what we had was wrong, that I'd lose you."

Ling Ling pulled her into a tight embrace, their bodies pressing together as if to erase the distance that had been created between them. "You're not going to lose me," Ling Ling whispered into Orm's ear. "Not now, not ever."

As they tumbled back onto the sofa, the world outside faded away once more, leaving only the two of them-no longer bound by lies, no longer half-sisters, but two souls who had found their way to each other through the fire.

For the first time in what felt like forever, Orm allowed herself to fully surrender to the love she felt for Ling Ling, her body and heart no longer weighed down by doubt or shame. They made love again, this time with a deeper connection, their passion fueled not by forbidden desire, but by the joy of knowing that they belonged to each other completely.

As the first light of dawn began to filter into the room, Ling Ling and Orm lay entwined on the sofa, their bodies spent but their spirits lighter than they had been in weeks. The war was over, and with it, the lie that had threatened to destroy them.
