The confession to Abhijeet had lifted a heavy burden off Vineet’s shoulders, but in its place came the growing realization of what lay ahead. Chitrole was a man with influence, and going against him wouldn’t just put Vineet’s career at risk—it could endanger them all. But with Abhijeet by his side, Vineet felt more grounded than ever. Together, they could find a way out of this tangled web.
The next morning, the CID team gathered in the conference room for a briefing. Tensions were high as they reviewed the latest developments in the case. The killer’s bold moves had left the city in a state of panic, and now the media was circling, adding pressure on the CID team to solve the case before another victim fell.
As the team went over the evidence, Abhijeet and Vineet exchanged knowing glances. They couldn’t afford to let the situation with Chitrole derail the investigation. Abhijeet had insisted they focus on the case for now, trusting that when the time came, they would confront Chitrole together.
“Alright, everyone,” ACP Pradyuman began, his tone as commanding as ever. “We’re missing something here. The pattern is inconsistent, but there has to be a reason why the killer changed their method. Vineet, I want you and Abhijeet to dig deeper into the backgrounds of the victims. There’s something we haven’t seen yet.”
Vineet nodded, but inside, his thoughts were racing. He needed to buy them time to deal with Chitrole’s demands, and the only way to do that was to keep moving forward with the case.
As the team dispersed to their respective tasks, Abhijeet motioned for Vineet to follow him. They headed to the records room, where they could speak without being overheard.
“We need to be smart about this,” Abhijeet said, his voice low as he scanned the room for anyone nearby. “Chitrole’s watching us, but we can’t let him control the narrative. We need leverage.”
Vineet frowned. “Leverage? How?”
Abhijeet’s eyes darkened with determination. “We’ll gather evidence against him. If Chitrole is pulling strings to manipulate this investigation, he’s bound to have dirt that we can use to expose him. But we need to be careful—he’s not someone to underestimate.”
The idea was risky, but it was their best shot. If they could find something incriminating on Chitrole, they could neutralize his threat and clear the way to focus solely on the investigation.
