Alexis and I rush through the dark green woods. Jumping over mossy rocks and fallen trees. Chasing the deer that we only just missed. Alexis halts suddenly, panting for breath. So I stop and let the galloping taupe deer escape through the trees. While we rest green rotting log, Alexis gasps for air. She's excited and amazed at how far and how fast we had run through the damp forbidding forest. I stand up and look around, to try and figure out where we are. As I scope out our surroundings I find a huge oak tree.
The wood dark from the constant rain and lack of sunshine. The leaves seem to be every single shade of green. From dark emerald to a light limey green. I call out to Alexis and beckon her towards the giant oak. We share a well known look and begin to climb. We reached the top and peer out of the leafy canopy. The seemingly always grey cloudy sky greets us. The sharp cold wind whips my hair out behind me.
Throwing my golden curls in Alexis's face. She laughs and so do I. The unexpected sound of happiness is somewhat...out of place in the freezing cold air.
"Alexis! Kyla!" desperate shouts sound below us. Out of the corner of my eye I see Alexis glance at me but I'm already climbing back down. I'm about two meters from the ground. Then one. Alexis is seconds behind me copying my hurried steps perfectly. I leap out from the oak tree and land in animalistic crouch without a sound. Alexis climbs to a lower branch and steps down.
We're out of the tree just in time to see Hunter, Lukas and Amos running from the thick green forest. I call out to them so they know where we are. They sprint towards us, grab our elbows and start to run towards the village. As we run Alexis and I shout questions at them. But they don't answer. They just keep on running. Just as we reach the edge of the forest they knock us to the dirty forest floor and drag us behind a huge grey moss covered rock.
"What are you doing!" Alexis shouts at them. Hunter, her intimidating older brother, clamps his huge hand over her mouth and glares at her furiously."Quiet, you idiot!" he hisses into her ear. Her dark brown eyes narrowing dangerously and she pushes him away roughly,"What the hell is going on?" I whisper to them, Alexis crawling around to be next to me. The boys glance at each other nervously and then Hunter whispers, looking at me,"Over there." he motions vaguely to the rock.
So I slowly move from sitting down to a crouch and peek over the edge of the mossy grey rock. My eyes widen in terror and I begin to stand but Lukas lunges at me and knocks me back down. Trapping me beneath him. Alexis immediately tries to stand but both Hunter and Amos grab her and pull her down before she can see the horrible scene unfolding before me.
Screams erupt from the small village. Horrible, tortured shrieks of terror. I move my head so I can see around the rock and watch as huge black horses thunder through the town. Carts filled with crying townspeople dragging in their wake.
Children run screaming throughout the burning streets. The horses black cloaked riders rush through the town brandishing whips and chains. A mountain of a man dressed only in black stands in the centre of the town, people screaming and cowering away. He stares at the dark cloudy sky, totally motionless. Then all of a sudden his lips start moving.
Silently.
People stop and stare at him, confused. The distracted people are quickly captured by the whips and chains of the monstrous men. The enormous man who looked to be the leader stops speaking and smiles, showing a row of black and yellow rotting teeth.
Then all of a sudden everyone in the town freezes. Rooted to the spot. Paused in their terrified state. The monsters take advantage of the easy time they have to snatch up the rest of the men, women and children of our town. I hear Alexis start to cry, I follow her gaze until I find what she is staring at.
Her two little sisters trapped and crying. She turns to Hunter and shouts at him,"Why didn't you save them?!" his deep brown eyes fill with tears, he refuses to speak as she verbally abuses him. "Alexis! Shut up, now!" I hiss at her, sick of her accusing stream of words. She listens only to me and my focus turns back to the town.
The huge black men that roamed the town had frozen, their heads slowly turning towards where we are hidden. Lukas"s eyes widen,"Run." he says. We remain motionless,"Run!" he shouts pushing himself off me and dragging me with him into the trees.
(A/N) hey, again sorry it's so short, but I have a beautiful love for cliff hangers and drama :)
