I wake from my nightmares in the early morning, when sun peeks over the hills. The sunrise a beautiful mixture of oranges, reds and pinks. I nudge Alexis softly to wake her up."Go away, it's too early." she groans hiding her face from the dull light.

"Come on Alexis, we have to wash ourselves before the guys wake up!" I say standing up and stretching out my back. She sits up quickly and takes my hand and we run together to the lake. We strip off and leave our clothes on the shore.

We wash quickly in the cool water. Scrubbing the dried dirt and from our skin. Drying off with blankets from camp. Alexis and I dress quickly and stroll back to our makeshift campsite. Alexis kicks Amos hard in the stomach, waking him up instantly, throwing him into pain. I wake up Lukas and Hunter with a nudge of my foot, being so tense and alert they wake in milliseconds. They walk away to wash themselves. I bury the fire, the leftover meat and bones."What do we do now?" says Alexis reaching out to hold my hand.

"Now," says Hunter his voice crackling like thunder,"We have to find them."

We walk through the woods quickly. I constantly climb trees to gaze at the sky and help Hunter direct the way through the seemingly endless trees. As we duck under branches and jump over mossy fallen trees. I think through my memories. I remember my parents leaving me. I remember meeting Alexis as she came to my rescue, standing up for me when the children of our school teased me for being cursed.

On my 16th birthday I remember finishing my bow and sleeping in the trees. I think about when I broke my wrist and when Alexis first fell for someone. I recall that I never fell in love with anyone. Probably because I loved my parents, and they left. Everyone leaves. So I shut myself off. Although Alexis and Hunter never left me I never risked it.

We live together and when their parents died we cried together. Once their parents were gone, we had to care for their two youngest daughters. The beautiful girls grew up fast in the few months without their parents. Alana and Beth no longer giggled and laughed in the rain. It struck me hard in the heart to see their once smiling faces go from crying to concrete.

I snap out of my thoughts and focus on where we are going. As cloudy day turns into a dark night we don't stop. The night air is like frozen icicles against my skin. The gusty wind blows through the leaves of the tall dark trees. The night is eerie and chilled. The midnight sky in sections of dark clouds and sparkling constellations. Our small group walks soundlessly. I'm so tired I can barely keep my eyes open. I constantly trip over stones and half surfaced roots. Cold droplets of rain fall from the sky. Drenching us to the skin.

Alexis holds my hand. Its like she need physical proof that I'm actually next to her. I squeeze her hand and she whispers,"Don't let go." I force a small smile and nod. I hear the loud whirring of a helicopter. A loud explosion rocks the earth beneath us. I'm knocked to the ground. Lukas is above me shouting at me. Shaking me. His voice is muffled. I can't make sense of what he's saying. I see Alexis lying next to me. Her dark eyelids fluttering. I sit up and cough as dust and dirt invades my throat. I realise that I'm still holding her hand.

I shake Alexis's hand and she sits up groaning. I sigh in relief and press the heel of my palm to my throbbing temple. Amos pushes me away from Alexis and wraps his arms around her. Lukas picks me up and whispers something in my ear. I can't hear him. I watch Hunter over Lukas's shoulder as he glares dangerously at Amos. I walk slowly towards Hunter and grab his arm. He looks at me and I shake my head.

Silently telling him not to do whatever he is thinking about. He scowls and leans against a tree, facing away from us. I run to Alexis and wrap my arms around her hugging her tightly to me. When we pull away her eyes widen in shock. As she puts a rain soaked hand to my cheek, I realise how much my arm is stinging. A large red bloody mess is spread across my upper arm. Tears start to flow down my cheeks. Hunter puts his arms around my back and lifts me of the muddy ground.

It's now day. I passed out from pain just as the first lights touched my skin. Hunter sets me down in the shade of a tree. My arm is stinging and swollen but most of the skin has softened and healed. Lukas pours some cool water onto my wound. My eyes brim with tears again. Amos holds my hand while Lukas slowly extracts stones from underneath my skin. His face is flashing pictures of pain and anger. I tear a strip of white cloth from my shirt and wrap it carefully around my injured arm.

I stand up slowly, carefully and brush the dried mud from my pants."Come on guys," I say breaking the silence,"We have to keep going." I glance up at the drab cloud covered sky."Are you strong enough to climb and see where we are?" Hunter asks me. To answer I grab the lowest branch of a breezy willow tree and swing myself up. The thin wispy green vines swing limply from the rough branches.

I part the long dangling tresses and peer out towards the grey horizon. Smoke twists and swirls through the trees ahead of us. The red glow of fire lights a clearing. I jump from the willow and start to run. I don't need to look back to know that everyone is following me.

I sprint through the forest. The trees rush past me in a blur. Once I reach the clearing I collapse behind a fallen log. I look behind me, watching my friends hide themselves behind the trees. I look over the log and watch the tall fires flicker. The clearing is covered in small brown canvas tents. The dark evil beasts guard the perimeter. Watching the woods with hollow eyes. The village people swarm the area.

Sitting silently by fires or huddled near tents. Then without warning, rough gloved hands seize my arms, cover my mouth and dragging me over the log into the clearing. I writhe and pull, trying to escape. Twisting around I see my friends captured from their hiding places and struggling. The townspeople watch us, children cry, parents reach for us.

We are dragged painfully down into a underground tunnel. The monsters pull us through corridors and around corners. Leading us deeper and deeper into the earth. A large iron door blocks our way. Muffled words are whispered into an small microphone and the metal door groans open. Rusted walls surround the incredibly long room and small black metal cages swing from the ceiling. We are pushed roughly into the dangling cages. The heavy locks click shut and the men leave us.
