DHRITI
"Dhriti, what are you doing here?" Saad looked up at me in confusion the second I barged inside his cabin.
"Why, thank you for asking me to sit, Dr. Hafiz." I passed him a fake smile and pulled the chair to sit across him.
"Dhriti?" He blinks, still trying to process everything.
"I was bored." I lied. Well, technically, it wasn't a lie, but anyway.
It's been a week since our last encounter where he saw me breaking down like fucking damsel in distress. Ew.
After my ugly mental breakdown, I got busy with my office and a shit load of pending work. And Saad, well it's been a week since I had a conversation, let alone dinner with him. He had important surgeries lined up back and forth, and he asked me extra politely if he could stay at his place for a couple of days since it would be impossible for him to manage everything.
And I agreed. But then imagine my sour mood when I got to know that instead of staying at his place, he was spending his days and nights in the hospital because he was too exhausted.
"Bored?" He mouthed in disbelief, staring at me as if I'd grown two heads.
I cocked up my brows. "What? It doesn't seem plausible that I'd visit your hospital just because I was bored. Guess what? You're wrong, husband."
He shakes his head, leaning against his leather chair and rubbing the back of his neck. "I'm sorry for lying."
"Mhm, you should be sorry." I nodded.
"It's just that there's an elderly VIP patient whose surgery was scheduled with the predetermined term that I'd be here in the hospital twenty-four seven till he gets discharged." He replied.
"Who?" I asked, casting a glance at him.
He wore his white coat over the black shirt tucked neatly under his pants. And apart from that there wasn't anything neat about his condition. His hair was a mess, and even the black-framed glasses couldn't hide his dark circles.
My lips twitched at the sight of the end number of coffee paper cups discarded in the dustbin.
"Who?" I asked again.
He named some old greasy politician.
"Did you agree to it beforehand that you'd be here watching that old Bastard like a dog on duty?" I folded my arms in front of my chest.
"No, but the management couldn't-" He stopped, and after wetting his dry lips, he added. "Don't call him names. He was on his deathbed just a couple of days back."
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. "So, is he dead?"
"No. The surgery was successful."
"Then let me call him whatever I want besides these stingy politicians care so much about their own lives but they don't give shit to poor citizens who can't even access basic healthcare." I said.
"Still, Dhriti. It's not right to"
I clicked my tongue to cut him in the middle. "Tell me you agree to it, don't you that he's a sick Bastard? After all the pending criminal charges against him are proof of it."
He took a sip of his coffee and chose to ignore my words.
The lack of sleep and exhaustion in his eyes made me pissed. He's looking like a shit, and I would've ignored his state, but now that I have a crush on him once again, it makes my blood boils.
