Qu Ming's eldest son, Qu Ze, and second son, Qu Xi, were worried that Zhao Changxia might come over to stop them. So, to buy time, they each took on the task of cutting and bundling, not having enough time to remove the threshed rice and pack it.
After they finished harvesting one mu of rice and saw that Zhao Changxia and Qu Qingjiang hadn't appeared yet, they relaxed, thinking that no one would report them, or that Zhao Changxia and Qu Qingjiang had lost their courage after Qu Feng's death.
They then extended their sickles toward the remaining mu of land, planning to let their father come in the evening to take the rice back to their fields. Even if Zhao Changxia came and demanded the rice, they could claim it as their own and keep it without any trouble.
Their plans were well thought out and seemed perfect, but little did they know that as they were finishing the remaining mu of rice, Zhao Changxia slowly appeared at the edge of the field, smiling at them: "Cousins, I heard you're here to help with the harvest? You've really worked hard."
The two brothers were startled by her sudden appearance: "......"
Why did she choose to appear just as they finished the work? Was it a coincidence or deliberate?
They had never seen Zhao Changxia like this before. Her calm demeanor felt the most frightening, and they unconsciously swallowed.
Qu Ze, the more naive of the two, was especially intimidated by her after the last encounter with her feather duster, which left him with psychological trauma. Seeing the feather duster now made him nervous.
On the other hand, Qu Xi was relatively "headstrong." In terms of stubbornness and seeking trouble, he had inherited his father Qu Ming's traits completely.
Relying on the sickles and carrying poles in their hands, he thought they had a better chance against Zhao Changxia and said, "What help? This rice we've harvested is ours now."
Although Zhao Changxia guessed they wouldn't leave quietly, she patiently reasoned with them, since there were too few actors and the scene wasn't satisfying enough: "So the rice you've harvested is yours? Then if I take your rice, it must be mine, right?"
Qu Xi was taken aback. Qu Ze, hoping for luck, said, "Our rice was already harvested."
Zhao Changxia: "......"
She glanced at Qu Ze, "Can you guarantee that your rice will always be harvested before mine?"
Qu Ze was momentarily speechless.
Seeing his father and two younger cousins in sight, Qu Xi, wanting to delay and wait for their help, became even more brazen: "I didn't let you harvest!"
Following Qu Xi's gaze, Zhao Changxia saw Qu Ming and the others but didn't pay them much attention: "Did I ask you for permission?"
Qu Xi, being stubborn and unreasonable, retorted: "This is the Qu family's land, when did it become your decision as an outsider?!"
"I think you may have forgotten that this land was given to me as a wedding gift, and the land deed is in my hands. Even if it's Qu family land, it's not up to you to decide."
"You, as a son-in-law, became part of the Qu family when you entered the door, and your land is now Qu family land!"
Zhao Changxia asked curiously: "So, does your mother's dowry count as your dowry? And your sister's dowry, is it also your sister's husband's dowry?"
Qu Xi didn't expect her to be not only physically intimidating but also so eloquent, and he was momentarily at a loss for words.
Qu Ze tugged at his clothes, advising him to avoid direct confrontation with Zhao Changxia to avoid being the first to be dealt with, but Qu Xi ignored him: "You took the wedding gift, not the dowry!"
