A/N: Not the best story I made for sure.... but hey... I got bored had a bit of an idea for this until I forgot it in the process and I am not gonna drop a story so I am winging this right now....
Great.
This is exactly what I needed.
The exam hall was buzzing with anticipation. Demons of all ranks were gathered, eyeing each other up, plotting, scheming—it was the kind of tense, cutthroat atmosphere that was standard for these ranking exams. Usually, I'd be fine. A little dodging here, a little sarcasm there, and I could slide through without too much attention.
But today?
Oh, today was different.
I could feel it. That weird, electric tingle in the air. The one that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. It wasn't just another test. No, someone had their eyes on me—and not in the "I'm jealous of your good looks" kind of way.
Perfect.
As if I didn't already have enough problems.
I shifted uncomfortably, doing my best to blend in with the rest of the students. But I could feel it. That sharp gaze, following me, watching every move I made. It wasn't just the usual curiosity demons had around me. This was something more... dangerous.
And then, from across the room, I saw him.
His eyes were fixed on me, dark and full of rage. There was something familiar about him—though I couldn't quite place it. His aura was practically screaming, "I'm going to kill you," and suddenly, all my instincts were telling me to get out of there. Fast.
Before I could make a move, he was on me, crossing the room with a speed that made my heart stop.
???: You. I know what you did.
Oh, crap.
I backed up a step, my mind racing as I tried to figure out what he was talking about. But before I could even open my mouth to deliver one of my trademark sarcastic remarks, he grabbed me by the collar and slammed me against the wall.
Me: Whoa, whoa, personal space, buddy! Ever heard of it?
He wasn't listening. His eyes were blazing, full of anger and something else—something a lot darker.
???: You killed him. You think you could just hide here? Among demons? Did you think we wouldn't find out?
Oh.
Right.
That.
I totally forgot about that....
The memory hit me like a punch to the gut. The demon I had killed. It wasn't something I liked to think about—actually, I tried really hard to forget about it—but clearly, someone had decided that revenge was on the menu today.
Me: Listen, if this is about that whole 'killing your friend' thing—
???: Friend? That was my older brother.
Oh.
Right.
Great.
Couldn't have just been a distant cousin, huh?
His grip tightened, and for a moment, I could actually feel the air getting thinner. I struggled, but he was a demon—strong, terrifying, and not at all interested in hearing me out.
