aliyah's pov

Tuesday July 30th
12 pm

The sun hung high in the sky, casting golden rays over the glittering waves as Aliyah and Demitra stepped onto the warm sand, hand in hand. The beach stretched out before them, a perfect paradise, alive with the sound of gulls and the gentle rush of the tide. Sunday and Eliana sprinted ahead, their excitement bubbling over as they tossed their sandals aside.

"Last one to the water has to eat a rotten egg!" Sunday shouted, her voice carried away by the wind.

"Hey, no fair!" Nick called after them, laughing as he tried to keep up with Chris. The brothers exchanged a look, a silent agreement to join in on the race. Nick's grin spread wider, his carefree energy infectious as he ran.

Aliyah turned to Demitra with a smirk. "I guess we're on our own for now."

Demitra squeezed her hand softly, leaning closer so her shoulder brushed Aliyah's. "I don't mind a little alone time with you."

Aliyah felt the familiar warmth spread through her chest at Demitra's words. She smiled, pulling her girlfriend a little closer as they wandered down the beach together. "How about we show them how it's done and build the best sandcastle this beach has ever seen?"

"You're on," Demitra replied, her smile mirroring Aliyah's.

They knelt in the sand, hands working in sync as they sculpted towers and walls. The laughter from the water provided a perfect backdrop as they shared quiet conversations, occasionally glancing up to watch Nick and Chris splash around with Sunday and Eliana. The joy in the air was infectious.

Aliyah wiped a strand of hair from her face, her fingers brushing sand off Demitra's cheek. "You're getting pretty good at this."

Demitra smiled softly. "I have a good partner."

Suddenly, Nick and Chris came charging out of the water, dripping wet and wearing their usual mischievous grins.

"Watch out!" Nick shouted, and before Aliyah could react, they launched themselves into her sandcastle, sending the towers crumbling.

Aliyah squealed in mock outrage, jumping up as the sand collapsed. "You two are so dead!"

Nick laughed, raising his hands in surrender, though his eyes sparkled with mischief. "Hey, at least I did it with flair!"

Chris ducked behind Nick, feigning innocence. "I was just following his lead!"

Demitra chuckled, wiping her hands off. "I think revenge is in order."

Before the boys could protest, Aliyah tackled Nick back into the sand, laughing as they wrestled. Demitra leaned down beside Chris, calmly starting to pile sand around him as he watched, perplexed.

"Uh... what are you doing?" Chris asked cautiously.

Demitra just smiled. "You'll see."

Sunday and Eliana came running from the waves to join in, piling sand on top of the boys until Nick and Chris were buried up to their necks.

Nick sighed dramatically, the sand trapping him in place. "I regret everything."

"Maybe we should decorate them," Eliana suggested with a mischievous grin, holding up a shell. Sunday quickly followed her lead, placing seaweed on Chris's head like a crown.

"Okay, now we're talking," Nick said with a grin. "If I'm going to be stuck, at least I look fabulous."

Aliyah burst out laughing, leaning into Demitra as they both stood back to admire their handiwork. "You always manage to make the best out of a situation, Nick."

Nick winked, his smile playful. "Well, someone has to keep the mood fabulous, even when buried in sand."

The afternoon slipped by with laughter, races along the shore, and more splashing in the waves. The group's joy was palpable, with playful teasing and an easy rhythm between them all. When they finally collapsed onto their towels, breathless and content, the sun was beginning to dip low in the sky, casting a golden glow across the horizon.

Aliyah rested her head on Demitra's shoulder, the moment feeling perfect in its simplicity. "Same time next weekend?" she asked, her voice light.

"Definitely," Demitra replied, her fingers brushing gently through Aliyah's hair as they soaked in the warmth of the setting sun.

Nick, still brushing sand out of his hair, chimed in with a grin. "But next time, I'm not letting anyone bury me. Unless it's someone cute."

Chris rolled his eyes, throwing a handful of sand at his brother. "You wish."

How does that feel now? Would you like to add or change anything?
